The F1s have been bald for ~1.5 years now.
Don't drive the L in the rain.
I about lost it at 80 mph going to LFEST in the rain last year and had to slow down.
So I need new tires before the trip this year
So looking for recommendations
But I really like the way it drives on the 16" skinny fronts so I might just go 16" rims all around?
Thoughts/opinions/suggestions?

Mark,
I am running the Nitto 555's up front and the Nitto DR's in the back now.. its a great combo. Just keep in mind that you will go thru 3 sets in the back before you go thru one set in the front.. the DR's grab like I wouldnt believe and almost make you forget the thought of running slicks, although I will still run slicks..
the Nittos are better in the rain than the F1's were.. I think that Doug is an
F1 fan. The Nitto's have a better looking tread pattern too.. IMHO..
Let us know what you decide..
Dana
Oh, I also give a :tu: to Dennis' setup... it looks really sweet and its on 17" tires IIRC..

The Nittos are my fav street tire they are quiet and last twice what the F1 does. The F1 is a better rain tire. Toyo and Hankook are off brand discount junk. With the Nitto you can run the DR on the back and have a matching set of tires. The DR seems to go about 6-7 thousand miles max.

Toyos arent off brand nor are they junk, i run them and like them better than My F1's and Nitto's, I love there wet weather traction and they do real well in the dry:tu:

I agree I'm on my second set of Toyos and have had them 140+ rides smooth, they have a 420 treadwear rating nittos and f1 are only 300.

Me too, side walls are good.
What are the sizes?
Think I know the rears are 390?
What's the fronts?
Toyo Proxes are good for daily driven, but the traction is really limited. If you go anything above 1/4 throttle from a stop, it'll spin. They squeal when pushed even remotely hard in corners.
Hankook's are no-name's, but they're actually pretty grippy compared to the Toyo Proxes. I'd suggest the Hankook's before the Toyo's.
First choice though would be the Nitto's though. If I had to do it all over again, that's what I'd go with.

I concur with Dana.
Nitto 555 front, 555Rs in the rear... this is the only way I will drive my truck. Fine in the rain, no matter what anyone says (the DRs are fine...I just drive the speed limit when its wet). Just replaced my fronts, which obviously wear much less than the rears.

Rears are 390/40R17, but are actually closer to a 345 standard size. Fronts are 275/50R17, but I would prefer a 255 profile on the fronts if I could do it over. Problem with Nittos in smaller diameter is you can't get the sidewall height that I think makes the truck look right and thus the overall tire diameter is undersize. I decided to keep the 20s for highway/distance trips.

I've had good luck with the Toyos as a former daily-driver in mixed wet/dry conditions with ~53k on the clock. The factory F1s gave out at around 16-18k due to a tread/sidewall cut from road debris.
The Nittos are looking like the next set.

F1's lasted 28,000, 1st of Nitto's (555's on all 4's) lasted 32,000. This third set 555's up front--555r's in back. The first set of 555R's lasted about 9,000 miles and I don't do burn outs. They grip twice as well as the regular 555's. Only issue is when turning and sliding the rear end out getting the rear wheels loose (on purpose)......when the 555r's grab they grab hard and will surprise you and kick you back....just an FYI.
I think they handle very well in the rain. At low speeds never had an issue with them just breaking loose....much better than what I was expecting when I bought them.....thought they would be really slippery on wet streets. Nope.
Also ran 2 Toyos for about 1000 miles in between new tires.....UUUGGGG (hey what happened to our throw-up smilie!!!) INSERT TEN OF THOSE HERE!!!!
Sure they last 50,000 miles but NO traction and I thought they were kinda noisy.....and with your mods....you will never be able to give it half throttle.
GO WITH NITTO'S AND GET IT OVER WITH!!!

Thats whar DR's or slicks are for, unless you got money flowing out ya ass or mommy and daddy are buying them, I don't see how the hell you guys can hear tires over your exhaust systems. For me Toyos are the best all around.....:d

Okay, the intention was for opinions, not attacks.
I am going with the standard Nitto 555s all around.
I don't drive a lot of miles and need to rotate tires because of line locks occasionally.;)
Maybe one for these F1s at the tire shop again.:D
What do the alignment shops like for the direction of the camber bolts?
Bolt heads on the inside, nuts on the outside?
Mine are not configured that way now and I remember them bitching about it at the last alignment.
Inputs please, thanks.

Mark,
Not sure that I can change your mind. But when I had one 555 go out on me (my fault) I kept the spare and put a new pair of 555DR's on the rear.. I could not believe the difference.. its huge and well worth it..if you are a low mileage driver, like me, then go DR, it is way way worth it.. you wont be disappointed..

They are already ordered.
Got a good deal with Discount tires on the 555s as I have bought many $K there over the years on multiple vehicles.
All I did was ask what kind of deal can you cut me?:tu:
Still looking for inputs on the correct camber bolt installation for the alignment shops?

Just for reference
I got the 555s for $215 mounted/balanced/with new stems/lifetime balance/rotation/and disposal fee.
I bought the replacement certificates for $35 each.
These tires are bubble gum soft compared to the 4 year old rock hard F1s. They are also a lot heavier than the F1s just based on loading/unloading from the K5.
They balanced out at less than 1/10 of the wheel weights on F1s.
15K miles on both sets of the F1s.
The K5 has a nice new tire smell in it now after picking the rims/tires up at lunch and sitting in the K5 all afternoon.:D
Terry thanks for the reply on the bolts, that is how I installed them.
