I would just get a new one from V1 I think they are 399 and 10 bucks shipping. If you buy used run the serial# on the V1 site to check for updates etc. It is easier just to buy a new one though.

The 9500 is a good unit. That and some laser blinders and you are set. laser is the #1 threat it does no good to detect it.

I disagree
My V1 has picked up laser a couple times when they were pointing at others in front of me

So the V1 and some blinders or the 9500 and some blinders? I read somewhere they were having some problems with the 9500. Is that true? Could just be B.S.
Thanks for all the input fellas.

I have picked up scatter or skip a time or two but it is not a reliable defense against tickets. The fact is the laser gun measures your speed 70 times per second, no time to hit the brakes. The beam is 18" wide at 500ft designed for enforcement in heavy traffic. If they are aiming at you a V1 is only going to inform you to pull over and sign your ticket. I have the Speed Labs test videos on laser and radar. In one test they showed how selective the laser beam was. In the video they lasered a car in the headlight from head on under 500ft. The detector on the dash never went off unless they aimed at the detector in windhsield. Less than 20% of a laser signal passes through the windshield. The blinder jams the laser gun that is the only true defense against a 1 on 1 laser hit. Now radar bounces all over and cannot single cars out in heavy traffic that is where a radar detector works good.

Status Report on Your Valentine One
Description: Radar circuitry known in-house as V1.7 gives high performance on all radar bands. Also,it remembers your “mode” setting when shut off. Has stack of four LEDs on front panel for band identification. Front and rear laser.
Upgrade Recommendation: While this version is not quite up to today’s V1 standard for Ka, it’s almost always good enough, and always better than detectors from other makers. X and K performance is excellent. Upgrading merely to improve radar performance is not cost effective, in my opinion, unless you’re concerned about the POP Mode operating in your area. Upgrading does bring other benefits, including our latest laser warning (front and rear), which outperforms the competitors by a wide margin, and POP Protection. Also, you'll get the new Euro Mode.
So if you are going to purchase a used detector less than 7 years old you will still have a good. one.
I will sell mine for $220
Did I mention before that Mike Valentine wanted to hire me at 2x my salary at the time, but I just met the SO. That and is was Cincinnati and the river was on fire.:D

I am a little ticked at V1 for not making a new unit for us loyal customers. I have bought at least 4 units in my lifetime and all of my friends and family run them by my recommendation. I am starting to look at the Escort 9500 and Bel STi Driver now. With false alerts being so annoying and GPS technology being available now. It makes sense to step into the new century and upgrade your product. Other units are making MAgnesium cases now and getting with the program. V1 is about 5 years behind at this point.

He said V1 so I posted the best place to get one. Once I got to thinking about it I rememebred why I sold mine and what I would get next. The embeded GPS board in a radar detector makes a lot of sense. For years I have driven by the same stores etc that set it off. It would be nice to have a unit know where the false alerts were.
