I have been looking around at the new diesels. I saw Ford is offering 4000 cash rebate on the new 08 truck. I am kind of pissed at Ford for making the 6 leaker. So I have been looking at the GMC Duramax. They are getting 2-3mpg more than Fords. They do have some chassis issues with the IFS front ends though. Here is are some cute quotes I took from the Ford boards. How can the govt think burning twice as much fuel that older trucks makes for a cleaner air and Earth? You know the DPF system on all 07-up diesels injects raw fuel on the exhaust stroke to burn the soot particles at 1200 degrees?

"I think 6.4 is the MPG rating not the displacement!"
I'm so glad I traded in my 02 250sd v10 for my new 08sd 6.4, I'm getting 2 miles per gallon better, what a joke!
"I've had mine since early March and have just over 4,000 miles on it. Changed the oil at 3,000 miles and have yet to tow anything. Just returned from a trip (virtually all highway miles) of 686.9 miles and burned 46.8 gallons. Squeezed every last ounce possible into the tank immediately before and after getting on and off the highway. Set the cruise on 75 and left it there. Where I went to school that works out to 14.677 mpg."
"I too am extremely careful to avoid 'jackrabbit' starts. Seldom do I allow the rpm's to climb above 2k during acceleration and am mindful of the boost gauge. The very best I've seen from mine in town is a hand calculated 11.8 mpg."
" I also have a 08 and a very dissapointed with the fuel milage it gets, my first trip was with a 32" 5th wheel and a boat behind it all highway aprx 75-79 mph and got 6.3 mpg, my 06 usally got 9 mpg
griving the truck empty around town it between 9.8-10.02"

Yeah I had two diffrent friends that have 08 ford. One just traded it back and the other is fixing to sale his. They both said the trucks pulled very good but gas was costing them to much.

Let me know what their next choice is.. I am either going Duramax or back to gas. It isn't worth the 7-8 thousand dollar diesel upgrade for a 8mpg heap. Diesels have seen their better days. Fixing the 6L may be the cheapest way out at this point.

Is there some way of modding the 08's to make them get better milage? Maybe take some of the crap off that is making the milage suck? Maybe with a tune?

My one friend that took his back has a new Duramax and loves it. Then the one thats selling his now is going back to a new dodge. Im fixing to get a new dodge to. Going to trade my 05 in just to get a mega cabe. I like the power and gas mileage I get with my dodge.

I don't know what to expect from the new 6.7 Dodge. It is their first engine with EGR and VVT turbo vanes. Could be a problem.
Rocks, people are still trying to hack the PCM for full control. SCT is tuning them but only their street tune from them only. I have though about the same thing. Straight exhaust removing the cat and DPF and thrun off DPF in the programmer would help a lot. Then remove the EGR coolers and lines. The DPF runs about once per tank of fuel. When the DPF runs it injects fuel into the cylinder on the exhaust stroke to heat up the exhaust catalyst. Just throwing good fuel out the exhaust pipe.

Oddly enough I played golf with some upper management types from Ford on Friday and they assure me this new motor is the cat's meow...:cool:I think time will tell

oddly enough they admitted the 6.0 was not one of their finer moments

I read recently that less than 3% of bad diesel exhaust in the U.S. comes from passenger vehicles and the remainder from Equipment, Locomotives and tractor trailers buses etc. how odd we legislate something burn a little cleaner but burn more fuel when it is not the prime offender WTF

on a brighter note they hinted that one of two things were currently planned for the new truck in 09 a new Gen 3 lightning or a high performance off road truck of some sorts
