Overhead Door had the best deal 385 carry out for plain steel, 525 for insulated. 620 and 840 respectively installed prices. They probably sell t he openers cheap also. The commercial units are one piece tracks which last longer. The Home Depot grade openers come in three piece tracks so they are a weaker design. That is what I learned today.

My Overhead Door "commercial unit" crapped out after only a few years.

You probably didn't use it properly. I didn't mean Overhad door brand openers just commercial 1 piece track openers in general vs 3 piece. I like the Genie pro screw drives. Some like chain drive units. Craftsman and Home Depot sell lifetime openers now.

I think I used AAAgaragedoorservices when I lived in Carrollton. They met all the competition $325 installed w/dual springs for heavest steel White.... it's been a few years.

I have the Wayne Dalton units at my house.. my neighbors are envious... they are incredibly quiet and FAST (I like fast).. the remote wall units are IR so no wiring needed.. they stand behind their units.. and if you get their doors, you dont have to get the IR things at the bottom of the doors, the doors are pinch proof.. up here, you gotta have insulated doors, esp when you have a heated garage like mine:icon_mrgreen:
The other neat feature is that they dont have a track, they attached directly to the bar and spring over the door.. so you have a new found place to store more old stock L parts.. over the garage door..

I have a quality garage door guy. PM me if interested. He may not be the cheapest... you can call him and ask depending on what you want. He does do good, honest work.
Terry, you are right re: 1-piece vs. 3-piece drive shafts.

A buddy of mine just got a set of those and they are pretty slick. They had some trouble getting them adjusted right, but once the initial bugs were worked out he's happy with them. They are kinda pricey is my only holdback.

Can we get a picture Dana? Those sound sweet but having trouble understanding how you gain the additional space. I need every square inch I can gain in my garage.

Terry, don't know if you got the answer you were looking for, but just so happen today(9/8/07) in the Star -Telegram section E, page 9 (Life section I believe) there was a whole page write up about garage doors metal & wood, cost you can expect to pay, windows or no windows, material made of, etc even garage door openers options. I got problems with my opener, the chain sprocket has broken & the chain is loose so we got repair man coming Tues.
he said its a common breakdown, we got a Craftsman a few months from being 5 years old.By the way the article said a composite wood door start about $1000 up to $2000 and solid wood is in the range $2700 to $3750 depending on style & wood type.

btw, they have some very nice looking fake wood doors, but boy do they look real and probably last longer too.. dont know how much they cost though, but I am sure you can find out.. they do sell this stuff at Lowe's..

We removed the old wood door and installed the new metal insulated door. Overhead Door stuck us in the pooper though. They gave us two right torsion springs and no left spring... We called their 24hr on call tech and they never called us back. We have to go back Monday and get the correct springs... They must be Ford guys:icon_eek:
