All I can say is wow, especially on the price, are you trying to sell it today?

Good luck with your sale this is a nice truck and a damn good price.

I have had several interested parties call me on the truck already, but no one has stepped up with the cash. Ideally, someone likes the truck for what it is.... a daily mid 12 second driver that gets "decent" gas mileage (14 mpg since the day I bought it, even with the mods). :tu:

For the record, I have watched it run mid twelves. Sweet truck...good luck on the sale.:tu: Someone is going to get one heck of a truck.

I can't believe this truck hasn't sold yet. Have you thought about eBay at all?

With the reserve as low as I think this one is, it would likely sell.

Any idea what Carmax would give you?

Truck is back in AutoTrader, and I'm headed to Carmax if it does not sell before Christmas. TTT for the buyer who has not seen it yet.

How does carmax determine what they will pay? Do they go by Kelly Blue Book?

my brother sold his Lightning to carmax it had about 89k miles and they gave him 12,000 for it but he had to take off all the aftermarket parts the guy said it was a less value with mods so he yank them off and put it back to stock.

Carmax usually goes way below bluebook.

I think they offer wholesale or something close.

Terry should know, he sold his L way back when to Carmax I believe.

It depends what they are wanting they have a curve and inventory hot sheet they buy from. When I sold L's were still a hot current item. Carmax usually pays 500 over blue book trade in good condition value. Nobody uses excellent condition unless it is a new car.

03LightningRocks
11-04-2007, 12:34 PM
Yep...carmax WON'T give you anything close to what your L is worth. They can't!!! They are in the car RESELLING business. How the hell are they going to make any money giving FAIR prices for any vehicle? Here is the answer...THEY AREN'T. They have the advantage in that you can take a hike and fifty other desperate sum bitches are waiting in line to take your place. I'll bring another one up. Gas keeps going up and the market for high H.P. gas guzzlers is going to go to sh!t in a hurry....IMHO.

That's total bullsh!t. Maybe "this one time, back at band camp" they might have paid 500 over blue book. But that sure as hell isn't something they "USUALLY" do.

Blue book "trade in" - usually several k lower than the private party value, right above wholesale.

I have actually dealt with Carmax. They laugh at blue book pricing. To your face even...LOL. You have to experience it at least once in your life to get it... Needless to say...I am not a big fan of Carmax.

Here is a link to Kelly Blue Book private party value.

http://www.kbb.com/KBB/UsedCars/PricingReport.aspx?ManufacturerId=15&YearId=2002&VehicleClass=UsedCar&VehicleId=3970&PriceType=Private+Party&ModelId=99&Mileage=96000&SelectionHistory=3970%7c5580%7c75025%7c0%7c0%7c&Condition=Good&QuizConditions=

Holy crap that is low. I bet carjax wants to give about 9000-9500 for it.

I missed the part where he said "trade in" value. I would keep the damned thing before I let them do that to me:tu:.

KBB says this. There is a fuzzy area around 5 years and 100K miles that banks and dealerships like Carmax may start taking it lower... Mine was 3 years and 37K miles they gave me 21,500.

Most car wholesalers are going to use the black book!

The Black book is the real wholesale guide and it will scare you to value

your car or truck by it. A 5 year old truck with 70,000 miles even if it is

pristine is probaly going to get hit with a rough or at best average bid by

most wholesalers! They will rarely bid excellent on anything unless it is

super rare low mile car!

The moral of the story is Mike has been trying to get 15-16K for this truck for several months now. The market has spoken. Nobody is saying Carmax pays top dollar but they WILL buy your vehicle on the spot. Who else does this? For someone who is tired of the hassle or needs money now they are one of the only dealerships that will buy your heap. It will cost you a couple grand but you will be done with it. Of course with time I am sure he can get good money I am surprised it has not sold myself...:icon_eek:

If someone on the Talon site knows a reputable car Wholeseller they can go to the Dallas auto auction and sell it, and get money that day as well.
The advantage doing it that way is you have alot of wholesellers bidding on the truck not just Carmax.
Most wholesellers will cahrge a fee of 250.00 for the trouble and the auction has a sale fee based on the selling price.
Hope this helps if not take it to Car Max:evil

Wow....nice to see everyone.

I was basing the value on NADA guide for the value between trade in and private party value.

Lightnings are a special vehicle they always bring more than market guides show. I bet it will sell shortly.
