Here is a good Utube find on the Eaton G80 locker. It is the factory locker for GM. They are decent but I like my Truetrac much better.

If you want the real difference.

Generally a posi will transfer a lower percentage of power from right to left. There is always some slip because it is not 100% mechanical attachment between right and left. There are about a dozen clutch plates linking the two sides together. Clutches wear and slip and are less effective over time. Most posi's are done by 40K miles. Lockers and the new Trutrac are all steel and gears so they provide a much more positive engagement and have a much longer effective service life. That video shows it all a posi transfers some power but not all. With enough power anyone can spin both wheels on ocassion. Posi's are one of the hardest things to test for operation. It is next to impossible to get a dealer to warranty a posi unless you bring it to him in pieces. Even drag racers that are spinning both tires with a stock posi feel a difference when launching on a truetrac.

Wow, they are still using G80s, the 20 year old K5 has a factory one.

I believe welding spiders is the redneck posi. We use to race our 76 Camaro with a welded carrier for years. Half a dozen local street trucks too.:icon_eek:
The G stands for Grenade:tu:

This is what I run in my ATV front diff. The stock posi sucked balls and left me hanging in some bad spots.:icon_eek:

Terry,

so, if I read all of this correctly.. the Eaton is a step up from our stock posi, but its still a posi.. and the Trutrac is a step up from the Eaton but its a locker.. and what about, not sure about this:tex, Detroit lockers?

The Eaton is abou the same as stock. The Truetrac is a all gear posi that locks up harder it is not a locker. Lockers are noisy and brash and should stay off road.
