So I was at school the other day and I was talking about havin to change my oil. No big deal right. Well my friend said that I need to change over to Royal Purple and not to Moble One! Is there a huge difference in the two?

How many miles on your truck? What was the last owner using? I would say don't switch around to much if you have some miles on it, find some good stuff and stick with it......:tu:

I have been using M1 since the 80's on all of my vehicles, including lawnmowers, snow blowers, etc...

M1 is one of a lot of good syn oils. But it is more readily available and the price isnt bad either.. in my book, there isnt a whole lot of differences between them, but M1 is one of the best out there.. it does get a lot of engineering thrown into it.

I def know a guy who blames his motor blwoing on switching to RP. At school we had a whole lesson on oil and people would be surprised at what all oil is good for and what it does. I have always used M1 in my last 2 rides and im sticking with it!

Friend of mine had a Jeep Wrangler and went through 3 rear ends using it after the third one he used M1 and never had a problem.

RP never had API certs for the longest time. They also seem to be a very thin oil hence the power gains. If oil gives you horse power it is because it has less viscosity that means less protection. M1 is one of the best we have used. The Formula 1 engineer that worked next to us at MSR used M1 15-50 in their engines. He said they were sponsored by Penzoil so they drained Penzoil quarts and filled them with M1 red label to make the sponsors happy, lol.

Eh...Terry can attest when he put in my new blower, RP isnt worth two silver statues of a tapdancing handicapped jesus..it hardly lasted me the 3k miles I usually do my oil change at. M1 is what ive been using since then, and its what I used to use in my old turbo RSX; The RP isnt worth the huge price difference itll cost you at all.

Running RP 5w-20 since some of the very first oil changes at 3k intervals since brand-new in Feb, 03. But, as many here know, I'm not chipped/pullied/etc. and don't race at the 1/4. I'm at ~53K now.

This is with it using 1 qt. every 1K miles according to SVT as normal.:tex I'd be curious what an oil analysis would have to say about the L.

Ronald, try making the change to M1 5-30 or 0-30 and see what happens and if you still have the oil burning issue.. couldnt hurt and would probably be cheaper too.. what do you have to lose?

RP is ricer oil...it only belongs in cars with half an engine and fart pypez. Your truck has a whole engine...treat it right with M1.

RP buys M1 or at least from Mobil. Not sure what they do with it after that.

In my first truck (age 16) i liked to use all my friends used oil. It was cheap (free) and i didn't give a shit about the truck. at one point I had 3 different kinds of oil in the truck at the same time (castrol, penzoil, and quaker) and it ran like a dream. Now i only use M-1. It's easy on the engine, even if you go a couple thousand miles over a scheduled oil change.

Dana,

I've thought about that since M1 is making the 5w-20 now. M1 was my first choice.

Running the RP transmission fluid, too.

R,

I think the 5 - 20 is part of the issue.. they only did that to meet the CAFE guidelines.. go one oil change with the 5-30 and check to see if its different..
its only one oil change, and its great oil so it wont hurt your truck.
