I have read all the post I can on NHTOC, NLOC, Lightningrodder and TALON. I have also talked with both manufacturers...... and now I am even more confused!

If I decide to buy a new S/C... What are we seeing the best results with on a stock block..... polished Whipple 2.3 or polished Kenne Bell 2.6?

KB 2.6:beer:

Depends upon your goals for your truck. Either one will require supporting mods (injectors, fuel pumps, tune, possible MAF upgrade).

I will do 60lb injectors and larger MAF (or extender), and twin 255's when I can.

I am not sure if I will ever go built. I just want to maximize the power that I can out of the stock block and not have to worry about it.

From what I understand... I can safely run 17 lbs of boost with the Whipple and 15 lbs of boost with the KB 2.6 on the stock block.

More boost = more power. I am leaning towards the Whipple.

2.6kb will make more power @15lbs than the whipple @17lbs:cool:

KB 2.3 or Whipple 2.3 on a stock block. I myself love my KB 2.3 :tu:.

I agree... if you're going to run either of those blowers. What you need to decide on is a power level that you will be happy at. If its low enough, then the stock block will live a good while, if not a long, long time.

My research showed ~460-465rwhp was about the max you want to go on 93 octane on a street driven truck with the _bone stock block_. You can get there easily with either of the blowers you mention, or the cheaper KB 2.3 which is what I have. FWIW, mine only makes 14psi at peak and my power #s are in my sig below. I haven't had it to the track, but I can guarantee its a low-12 second truck in 100% street trim which is awfully darn fast, and it hasn't given me a lick of trouble.

I have had the "little" 2.3 Kenne Bell the "little" 2.3 Whipple, and currently have the 2.6 Kenne Bell. The 2.6 makes a lot of heat at higher boost levels (or at least mine does) I did make 525hp at 7* of timing, now I'm at 14* with an a/f ratio @ 11.3-11.5.

I'll just say this if you want a street truck go with the 2.3 whipple

with the 2.6 KB at 65mph I gave it some gas to pass a car and next thing I know the tires let go and I was fish tailing down the highway, its a bad Biatch!!!!

"cough cough" I did just put a deposit on a 3.4 Whipple though............ :evil

Ninja Edit: I was told the blower is two months out, but with Whipple I know its closer to 6 months lol

I guess I should have said... I am doing the injectors and larger MAF when I install the blower. I will do the twin 255's as soon as I can.

I want the biggest bang for the buck. Both blowers cost about the same.

Denis had injectors, 255 pumps, MAF and other helper mods and his motor let go with the 2.3 KB

KB 2.3 is more than enough on a stock block.
I still have the stock block record in Talon for how many years now?

You gonna be confused if you listen to everyone because everyone do different things. And more boost don't always mean more power, its measured different ways.

I have a stock block and a 2.3 KB which is more than adequate. My best so far is an 11.47 @ 117. Good luck

A little more info... My truck had 80k miles on it. Should I have any concern about upgrading my blower?

the blower is not the problem, its the tune and the owner being responsible. I blew a motor in my 2002 lightning with 8,000 miles on the clock with a 4# lower, airaid intake and flow master exhaust. I also had a single tune Superchip with a really hot tune

I decided hmmmm, I want to race another Lightning on the highway who was bone stock, pulled him pretty good the kaboom, 5 holes in the block later it had to be towed home

Mark is a testament to having a highly modded L with a stock block and has years of hard racing to prove that with a good tune and being smart, it will hold together

I blew my first engine at 24K or so on a Eaton, 2# pulley and rich/mild tune. Then my 10K dollar JDM engine lasted about 3K miles if that and only one race weekend.

Seriously, that dude looked like he was cruising for children or something. If my kids where still young, I would have had to kill that guy. Just to be sure he never got to them. Very weird dude...very focking weird.
