Well I threw out both of my HP's today. One was a basic printer 3600 no big loss. The other was a fairly new and nice 2575 or such combo copier, scanner, printer it was 150 bucks or so.. It developed paper feed problems quickly and would not work properly. I am sick of HP for these crappy units that never made more than 100 pages before failure.
I am thinking of Lexmark now. Wally World has this one for 100 bucks and it is supposed to be wireless which may be nice.

I don't do a lot but I need to be able to print some resumes and letters from the house for a little while.

I don't do a lot but I need to be able to print some resumes and letters from the house for a little while. I personally don't like Lexmark. They also don't honor their rebates for the smallest reasons. I bought a cheap Dell 1110 laserjet for $99 and it has worked perfectly for me for over a year (I print at least 30 pages a day).

WTF! Dell, I can't get one of those at Walmart or Staples! Nice avatar, I see you saw my John Bunell and raised me a Richard Simmons...:tex
I had some Epsons back in the day, I guess all of the inks are priced the same. I don't print enough to justify laser. Most stores have HP, Epson, Lexmark, Cannon, etc..

I bought this one earlier this year.

All in one fax, scanner, copier, and printer. I bought it because it was the cheapest network printer I could find and the network printing actually works. So I have it hooked up to my wireless router, and I can print from my laptop without plugging anything in. The setup is a little complex for the network printing, but if you are going to use the usb, it is simple. It also has separate color cartridges.

It might work for photo printing.. but I have another printer for that.

LOL...one of these bad boys (or one from some other manufacturer) plugged into your wireless router and every printer becomes a wireless network printer.

If you can't figure out how to make that work, one of these will also make every printer a wireless network printer. http://www.buynetgear.com/searchresu...=21&dept_id=36 (http://www.buynetgear.com/searchresults.asp?search_id=21&dept_id=36)

Ive also heard good things about dell

HP has been falling off in quality lately ESPECIALLY the all in ones - I was given a $400+ all in one that had all the bells and whistles and one small broken part - I figured I would just buy the part - replace it myself and BOOM I would have a kick as high end wireless All in one...

Well HP doesnt sell parts - I used our contacts at work to try to find the part - its was over $250 ... Screw that .. So i found another printer at work that was the same series and was broekn in a different way and took the part I needed out of it - No dice the damn thing still wouldnt work - Well unfortunately that went in the trash.

IN my opinion most of the PCs and printers you buy at Retail are CRAP - they are the cheapest of the cheap -
Spend $10 on shipping and get something decent. instead of picking from whatever is in stock ( meaning whatever isnt selling )

I have the exact same one. I bought it when it first came out and it was a bit more expensive. It does do photo printing just fine BTW.

I've tried gadgets like these, and whether or not they works seems to depend on the printer. For example, I hooked my hp up to one of these and it would work fine until the printer went to powersave mode. Then if I sent it a print job, it would not wake up. I couldn't turn the powersave off so I took the print server back. In the end, I decided it was easier and cheaper to buy a printer that had explict support for network printing. I think all the other network printers I have seen run $400 and more.

They only work for basic printers - dont expect them to work with the all in ones.

Also keep in mind that if the printer is on your desk and has a network port and can be plugged into your router -you can print using your wireless laptop - You DONT have to have a wireless printer to print from a wireless laptop. You just need a networked printer. Wireless printer is really only needed for people that want to put the printer across the room and they have no Cat5 cable over there. Also if you have a fax printer - you will need to put it near a phone line - the phone line part is NOT wireless

Agreed. What I have found is the protocal the network printer adapters implement isn't fully implemented by all the printers. So it is kind of luck of the draw.

And a slight correction is that while the printer itself does not have to support wireless, in order to print from your wireless laptop the printer does have to be hooked up to a wireless network.

My actual setup is I have a wirless router in my office. On top of my tv I have a wireless bridge hooked to a 5 port switch. I have my tivo, xbox, and network printer hardwired to the switch. I now have network access to all.

I am still looking. I have no network at home so I was hoping for a printer with built in wireless. Otherwise I have to buy one that is network ready and buy a wireless router as well. I do like the separate ink colors on the brother. In general the Brother seems better built with more rollers in the paper feed mechanism.

You CANT connect direct to a wireless printer

As sandman said a wireless printer connects to a wireless router

What about a Bluetooth printer?
Thanks. I was hoping wireless would go direct, looks like I am stuck setting up a router either way.

I don't get that one...
I went to Staples for a Brother 440 and it has been discontinued and replaced by the 465. So I have to order it online or pay more for the new model...

You can get these cheap laser printers off Egay and they also sell dirt cheap knockoff toner. Ive been using those too and had no problems. One good thing about the laser cartrige is that it won't dry out if you don't use it alot and it will last a lot longer than an ink cartrige. Downside is no color unless you buy a pricey one. Really they are all disposable now, buy whatever has the features you want and toss it when it dies. Hell the cartridges cost almost as much as the printer now!

Yeah, Richard Simmons is probably the "anti-Bunnell" of TV. The wife put me on a diet so he helps me remember not to eat. Seems to work, I lose my appetite everytime I think of those short shorts :vomit:
