Here is the review of it. Sounds interesting. For anyone who would commit blasphemy and mix it with soda pop, it would be a waste of your money. The subtle differences between this and straight up regular CR would be lost in the mixer.

Crown Royal Cask No. 16

Crown Royal, everyone's favorite Canadian blended whisky, is getting the special treatment. Or at least a single expression of it is.

The blend is then placed in French oak casks which had previously held cognac. There is no age statement associated with the bottling.
Marketing Bull Alert: Despite the name, there's no indication that this is the product of a whisky finished in a single cask.
This new expression should be available across the US by the third week of October, but I had a chance to try it early.
Mine came is a small sample bottle - but when you buy yours, it will come "in a faceted 750ml decanter-style bottle, which is wrapped in a black velvet bag with gold stitching. The bottle is then encased in a black and gold gift tube."
Sounds very posh.
But what about the taste?
Bags and decanter-style bottles aside, this is good stuff.
Nose: The winey notes on the nose are unmistakable, with a good dollop of oak (maybe a little too much?) - but all in all the entire nose is very subtle, very clean and very pleasant.
Taste: Oh yeah, that characteristic Canadian rye bite is there, but much more subtle than your standard Canadian. The cognac has done a good job of taming the rye.
First you get hit with a fruit-sugar sweetness - followed by the bite. Complexity? Medium, but often complexity is lost in favor of smoothness. And Cask No. 16 is very smooth. Most of the complexity is contained in the finish.
Finish: The rye comes back in a long finish with which turns slightly bitter at the very end. Late finish is very much like cognac or a dry white. Wait a second. What's that? Irish Soda bread!?! Yeah that's it. I get the dryness and sweetness (and occasional raisin) one gets in a bite of Irish Soda Bread. Damn it, I love Irish Soda Bread!
All in all, this is an excellent premium whisky and Crown Royal gets a fair shake from the cognac finish.

I still have what was left of the bottle I brought. I am having it plasticized in honor of the good times it provided. I never saw a second bottle . Who knows what the heck is going on here. If your just ordering one bottle, it may be easier to just buy it at the local liquor store. The shipping is a minimum of roughly 20 bucks. You almost have to buy two bottles to make it worth ordering from them.

I layed out more coin for liquor from at that sight too. Hope it doesn't turn bad on me. I used my Citi Card, so if they try to screw me over, I can get my money back from Citi. Between the two orders I have blown around 700 bucks on liquor tonight and put a 250 dollar bid on that damned CR quilt. I have tracking numbers from both places. XR is scheduled for delivery on the 26th and the C16 is scheduled for delivery on the 29th. We will see if the BATF shows up for any kind of tax violations....:D.


On the same topic, I found this on Ebay. Dumb sum bitches are bidding higher on the C16 than it would cost to go down to the liquor store and buy it. Check it out....don't forget to add in shipping. Hell I may sell mine and get some more online...:rll:.

The local Crown society acquired a bottle of the C16 for some weekend debauchery and I must say, XR's place at the top of the heap is very very safe.

In fact, I prefer Reserve much more than the C16.

If you like bark taste and wood chips, the C16 is for you. :nono:

Received my XR today via UPS. All is good. Didn't get the C16. The DA at FEDEX claims I wasn't home. Stupid SOB either went to the wrong house or just flat out lied to make his day go quicker. No possible way I missed him. I even have a note on the front door telling the stupid bastard I was home and to ring the doorbell. He left no hang tag...by the way. Lies I tell you...focking Lies.
