rifle stock finishing

Trying to refinish the stock on my M-44 b/c I am bored. I read some stuff and tried the Easy Off way. Seemed to be working fairly well to my suprise but not all the finish came off and the wood raised a little. I was gonna wait 24 hours for it to dry and use 100-150 grain sandpaper to see what I could do. I plan on finishing it with the Minwax English Chestnut. Any suggestions on getting the rest of the finish off or is that all I can do? Thanks.

I used a gel stripper on mine, let it sit for half an hour or so...then scraped the finish off. Once that was done...I lightly sanded to get the leftover off.

Well I already used the Easy Off oven cleaner and have a little finish left so I will sand it tomorrow once it dries completely.
