I dont take any kind of over the counter medications very often BUT when Im sick I used to count on taking Nyquil at night to get some sleep - many time I would wake up feeling nearly 100%
Well a few years back they cut the ingredients of Nyquil due to the Meth Laws - I had an old bottle left and used it the new bottle is going in the trash
They now leave out the Pseudoephedrine: (http://consumerist.com/consumer/complaints/nyquil-minus-pseudoephedrine-now-pseudoeffective-140247.php)
http://www.tylenol.com/images/tylenol/arw_white_on.gif Tylenol Cold Multi-Symptom Nighttime Is a reasonable substitute

I could have posted the same thing this week. I have had a cold since Sunday. I went to CVS at 9:30 the pharmacy didn't open until 10. I went back by on my way home 6:15 and they closed the pharmacy at 6:flaming:. The pseudo HCI substitute doesn't do much for me. The way it is now you have an easier time getting the old stuff from a crack house than a pharmacy. I was really in a bad mood after three trips over two days to try and get some damn cold medicine that works.

The old Nyquil rocked.. I would take it, get the best sleep of my life, wake up and usually feel much much better. This new stuff just doesnt cut it.. Wish they made a "classic" version. I am willing to go the pharmacist and sign for it if need be..

If Im not feeling much better by this evening Ill be able to give you a review of Tylenol Cold Multi-Symptom Nighttime and how it compares - Its the closest match to the Nyquil ingredients
Like you Ill be happy to sign for it - Since the formula was changed years ago and I still had the "good" stuff you can see I dont use it often - the bottle expired in 2006 :eek2:

Its really annoying that I can only buy a certain amount of cold medicine in one trip. Does that *really* stop anyone from cooking meth?
Its really annoying that I can only buy a certain amount of cold medicine in one trip. Does that *really* stop anyone from cooking meth? No. But it makes the majority of mind-dead people think that Big Brother is protecting them. The only way to stop large scale drug trade is to let Darwinism take over. If one makes poor choices, one must pay the consequences.:gatling:

I used the Tylenol stuff last night It doesn't last very long. Mine has 4 ingredients both of the pseudo substitutes. I have some old expired Pseudo tabs that work okay. The best stuff I have used lately is TheraFlu powdered mix. Not the daytime stuff but the one with three ingredients. ThreaFlu severe Flu and Cold I think it was.

I try to keep everything separate and take which ones I need at the time rather than the stuff with the multi medications. Sometimes I only need the acetomeniphen and the decongestant but not the antihistimine and vice-versa. It helps to simplify the medicine cabinet and I'm not taking extra meds when I really don't need them.
I agree though that the effectiveness of the old style Sudafed is much better than the new stuff. You have to get the good stuff from behind the counter if you want the real pseudoephedrine HCL. My doctor said it shouldn't make a difference and that the active chemical is still the same but did say that the salt (HCL vs. sulfate) could make a difference on how well it absorbs into your system.

When three or four AM rolls around and I still can't breathe or sleep I start mixing everything in the medicine/liquor cabinet then I sleep great until noon. I have mixed so many pills, liquids and powders this week I could make a drug dog high. I forgot what I was trying to treat:icon_eek:

Well - I tried it last night
As Terry mentioned it states on the bottle that it lasts only 4 hours - Thumbs Down
It tastes like Nasty Scope - Thumbs down
I did go to sleep and slept through to 4 am - woke up to pee and went back to bed - woke up about 7:30 - 8+ hours if sleep with no sneezing or sniuffling or blowing - :tu::tu::tu:
So in my opinion - it did what I wanted - it knocked back the symptoms and let me sleep -
Ill try the powder option that was mentioned next -
I agree in principle with the idea of medicating symptoms one at a time BUT there are 2 problems with that -
1) the medications are separately much more expensive and they expire LONG before I use them
2) the combining of doses can put strain on your liver as it tries to outprocess all the various full strength drugs - be especially careful if the drugs contain acetaminophen, you dont want to take TOO much of that
