I may be up for it. We need to have a good showing like the old days when 15 to 18 trucks went out together
Details:
The annual Speedway Children’s Charities “Laps for Charity” that will take place Saturday, May 24, 2008.
“Laps for Charity” provides race fans the rare opportunity to drive their passenger vehicles around the 1.5-mile superspeedway under controlled conditions. Participants will get to drive three laps around “The Great American Speedway!”® for a donation to the Texas Chapter of Speedway Children’s Charities.

I can drive 85 MPH anywhere I want. Why would I want to do it in circles? With the cost of fuel to get there figured in, maybe it would be better for the charity if we just send them the money we would have spent going to this event.
$30 in gas to get there and back.
$30 entry fee
$15 in gas spent driving in circles
= $75 I could have sent to the charity.

It is fun to feel the banking and drive under the lights. I have a class that day but may try to go. I have a few customers with Ford GT's that support this event. As always they will let me take them for a few laps:evil

Over the years the wild boys have ruined it for everyone. A few years back it was the Dodge R/T club they were passing the pace car and got kicked off the track. Since then they tend to keep a tighter leash on the pack. They will do one warm lap then slow it down. It is about charity and DRIVING on the track not RACING on the track.

Nope....you'll probably hit your highest speeds on the trip getting there.:rll:
On a more serious note, Terry is right, It's really not about getting to "race" on the track. It is more about giving money to the charity and getting to drive on the track. It will probably be a good time for those that make it.

That's really nice of you. I'll get the cash together over the next few days. You probably prefer 100 dollar bills.

It was discussed that we would hot lap it and go all out after the pace car broke off back into the pits, but the lead truck got scared and followed the pace car (cough cough Tifton :D)

Yeah, I think I'll do 45mph to save fuel. These fuel prices are crimping my flow! Everything I do requires driving across town. All of my toys and tools are 25 miles away. My land is 50 miles away, ATV riding parks are 75-400 miles away. We were going to ride the sand dunes this weekend but the cost of fuel may change those plans. It is starting to add up pretty quickly:icon_eek:

They presented the 2009 and 2010 forecast from the Assoc of Economic Forecasters or some group like that.. they are showing that oil will go back to be in the $90's for a barrel of oil and that the dollar will strengthen to around $1.50 euros... this is all by next year or so.. just in time for the next Presidential candidate to take office and get the glory for it.
