Recently I have been pulled over by two different cops for my window tint. No ticket, they just wanted to harass me... So my question is do the motor vehicle laws like this apply to vehicles not registered in the state they get the ticket? I have been in Texas countless times and never been pulled over for not having a front tag or inspection sticker. My truck is registered to a state and federally recognized Indian Tribe which is it's own sovereign nation. So basically it's not registered to the state of Oklahoma. How can this law apply to my truck?

I have often wondered this too. I reckon right or wrong it will cause you troubles.

If I understand correctly , with some laws it's not the laws of the state of registration, it's the laws of the roads in which you're operating the vehicle.

I'm sure Moonshine knows, not sure how often he makes it over here in off topic.

Yeah, it could be where you are standing is where you are judged... Which doesn't make sense cause of stupid states like Virginia that prohibit any window tint, radar detectors etc.

yeah, I know for a fact that the "no radar detector" law in Virginia applies to everyone. It states that on some of the signs as you pass through there.....and for those that don't know, Virginia seems like it will never end when you're cutting through there.

I can understand how a state can say, If you run a radar detector while you are in our state, we will take it.. because they are normally add-ons that you can turn off and take off of the windshield.. but window tint is a whole nother matter.. you can just take it off.. I bet they pulled you over not realizing you had out of state plates and then just hassled you to see if you would, either do something or to see if you were holding some illegal substance or whatever (you do drive an outlaw type of truck).. when they realized they made an error, they finally let you go without a ticket..

just my thoughts on this one..

Because you are driving on OK roads.

It is an equipment violation just like having a headlight out. That soveriegn nation can allow whatever they want on their soil, but once you are on state roads, their rules apply. This would differ from registration or inspection, in which state of origin applies until certain conditions are met; i.e.: 30 days after moving, etc.

Doesn't seem too confusing. Would it have been hassling if they had wrote the ticket?

Tell them you pay their salaries and to go catch a real criminal, that is what I would do:tu: Bad cop no donut!:evil

Well, the state of Florida would argue with you on this one. They will actually cut your tint with a razor blade if deemed past a certain limit. I have read this numerous times on forums. I recently saw it on the SRT-10 forum, maybe two months ago. Apparently Fl had a "tint enforcement" month or some crap.

Where you are pulled over dictates the rules, regardless of TX plates.

For the window tint you can wire a kill switch into the circuit. When you are getting pulled over roll them down and flip the switch. There's no law that says your windows have to work. I've had to pull the fuse a couple of times to pass inspection. It will raise a coule of eyebrows but they can't prove the tint is too dark.

Yes it would have. I live in redneckville and 90% of every truck around here has window tint just like mine. Even the cops. I think they just wanted to mess with me to see what I was doing and I know for a fact they don't like the Indian plates. I really just wanted to know b/c when I eventually get a ticket I don't want to sound like a dumb a** and tell them it doesn't apply to me.:tex I park right next to both of the judges at our courthouse once a week and drive past the police station all the time. It just pisses me off that after 6 months of driving the truck like this without being pulled over two different cops want to f-with me. One of them actually told me my exhaust was illegal b/c it wasn't coming out of the back of the truck...:hammer:

Oh yeah, two houses down from me either direction lives a highway patrol and a city cop. They have never said anything to me about my truck.

My brother lived in Missouri for several years and they have a very strict tint law. He had almost limo tint on his excursion but had Oklahoma plates and they never pulled him over for it. I would be pissed if they cut my tint....but I guess you can deal with it or go to jail.:flaming: Maybe they are just being nice when they think you are from out of state and don't harass you for little things like this.

Selective enforcement. Some officers got hard-ons for some of that stuff I guess. Here in Lewisville I have seen cars run reds right in front of the popo and they did nothing. I was riding with my son one night when he was pulled over for not turning into the proper lane. Just do your best to keep your nose clean and try not to give them a reason to stop you i guess.

Put the front plate on, or set aside some money to pay the fine when/if you get a ticket.

And dont be surprised when they pull you over for a plate violation only to find bigger problems

Murphy's law means that you will get pulled over when you have no time to spend, lack of funds, or worse.:evil
