What is the latest consensus on modern portable battery tech? Do LiIon batteries develop memory based on use and charge habits?
I have a habit of putting my cell phone on the charger every night and taking it off every morning. This seems to have shortened the battery life. But when I run it to empty I am stuck with a dead phone until I get to a charger...
Then there is Metal Hydride and the good old NiCd which some say has memory some disagree...
Car batteries don't like full discharges in comparison. If you keep it topped off it will last much longer. I know it is a wet cell and has to fight sulfating etc..

I put mine on the charger every other night.... battery life is usually between 50 and 20 percent. I've heard about the shortened life, but Im ok with 2 days on a charge.

A lithium-ion battery provides 300-500 discharge/charge cycles. The battery prefers a partial rather than a full discharge. Frequent full discharges should be avoided when possible. Instead, charge the battery more often or use a larger battery. There is no concern of memory when applying unscheduled charges.

Although lithium-ion is memory-free in terms of performance deterioration, batteries with fuel gauges exhibit what engineers refer to as "digital memory". Here is the reason: Short discharges with subsequent recharges do not provide the periodic calibration needed to synchronize the fuel gauge with the battery's state-of-charge. A deliberate full discharge and recharge every 30 charges corrects this problem.
