Well, I got on top of my trailer today and looked on top of it. The vents are shattered the the aluminum is royally dinged up.

I found 3 dents on the hood of the L the other day:flaming:. I imagine that I will find more too.

The vent covers are 30 bucks a piece. Once again the insurance system keeps you from using it...

I dont like dealing with insurance people all that much...Well one good thing is that I'm getting the L painted soon at my uncle's shop so we will just fix the dents then.

Oh sh!t Terry!!! I didn't even think about that. I need to get over to where my trailer is parked ASAP.

The plastic lids cost me less than 10 bucks each. That part is not my worry. It is the water pouring into the trailer that I worry about.

Thanks for the heads up Terry.

What the hell !!! I know I paid about 10 bucks a pop for them last year. I just purchased the lids, not the whole flashing assembly.

Yeah the whole assy is higher, I found the covers only locally for 15 each. He said they have sold 300 covers in the last 2 weeks. I will get vent fans over the summer and install some Maxx Air II covers.
Mine were sun hardened a new lid probably would not have shattered.

I am thinking I replaced mine just after getting back from L-Fest last year. I hope they aren't busted. They are surprisingly easy to replace. it's just a PITA going to get them and taking the time to climb up on the trailer. We are working 12-14 hour days already. I really don't have time for the added B.S.

Get you some maxx Air II covers and put over them. They are a lot better plastic than regular lids. They also sell a lifetime plastic lid for 5 bucks more made of a different plastic.

If they are busted again, I will check that out. The last time I replaced them, I did consider putting ventilation fans in place of the covers. I might just do that this time around. I really can't see spending the 600 bucks or so for an AC unit in a trailer that sits parked most of the time.

These are a nice fan model.
http://www.pplmotorhomes.com/parts/rv-vents/62466.htm
They make one with a thermostat for campers with pets or sleepers for 220.
There is even one with a rain detector that closes and shuts the fan off automatically.

I think I like the 139 dollar model. I can turn it on and off when I want it on or off. The rain sensor and T'stat are just extra crap that can malfunction.

Yep, I agree. Since I plan on living in mine I may opt for the stats. So I don't get too cold at night.

LOL...I think I could live in mine. I just need a cot, mini fridge...with cokes, bottle of crown, TV, satellite dish for Directv and an internet connection. No need for a shitter...just find a tree and a handful of leaves.

Good way to cut your overhead, when you think about it.

parents did it when they were building a house once.. rent was almost nothing and they were able to sock a ton of money away during the process.. if you dont mind living in one and where you can park it, then its not a bad option. But if you are in a trailer park, well, you can get some pretty interesting neighbors.

Terry's pic looks like the skylight on my hunting lease travel trailer, but I took the redneck approach to repairing it. Yanked the broken plastic off, tossed a hunk of plywood over the hole and weighted it down with a cinder block. Good as new. :tu:

Thanks for the heads up on this Terry. I never thought of it. I guess I will have to run down to my parents' house this weekend and see if theirs is okay. The trailer is only about a year old, but they are going to be out of the country for the next year and a half and I'd hate to have them come home to find out that the new travel trailer had been leaking inside for 18 months! It is in Covington, right were the past two storms hit.
