(Insert a flaming bag of shit here). Check out my d/l and u/l speeds:
http://www.svtgalleries.net/gallery/data/500/my_speed.JPG
WTF its been ****ed since June 7th and so far they haven't done shit to fix it, but put in a line order to test the line and get back with me, which they haven't gotten back with me with the results yet. It started with the internet not working AT ALL on the 7th and 8th. The 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th it was intermittent (sp?). And today it works at the BLAZING speeds that you saw above!! The upload speed is within their guidelines (and I'm ok with) but the download WTF. A whole 9kbps WOW my old 28.8k back in the day was light speeds faster.
Router is good... Modem is good... Computer works as is assumed good... line is ok for upload speeds, but not good for download speeds!?!? Maybe someone can chime in and tell me if the line can be bad coming in but not going out. I thought it was the same line there should be good both ways, but my computer knowledge is limited.

can you try another computer ?
One step to try with dsl is unplug everything for about an hour
the modem and the router
then plug in the modem and wait for it to sync - then plug in the router and test again
Next time you call in to the idiots - escalate - get to at least 2nd level
Your Throughput

Upload = 15.056 Mbps http://helpme.att.net/dsl/speedtest/images/spacer.giftry this test site as well

Lemme walk you through what tech support will waste your time with
Do all of the phones plugged in have a filter on them?
Do you have an alarm system that runs on your phone line?
Do you have a sat receiver (dvr etc) plugged in?
(This one seems to be the most commonly overlooked one, it got me once.....along with a damn $500 PPV bill for the last 6 months that never got reported because I never plug in my receivers:hammer::hammer:)

not having filters will cause problems BUT usually with no filter the modem never "syncs"
the easiest thing is to unplug everything - including the alarm from the wall then try the modem - if it works then it was a filter issue - back 10 years ago when the phone co did the dsl installs themselves they would putin whole house filters in the dmarc - then run sep line to the DSL modem

Depends on what you are paying for
I was thinking in general. After I looked up several cities and their ISP providers, it looks about normal.. not bad, not great..

Actually, if you have Elite you're getting screwed....should be between 3Mb- 6Mb, since Pro is up to 3Mb.

Its a great scam pay more $$ for more speed but never get it because you are too far away - but they never tell you you are too far away to qualify. you know damned well they know exactly the max speeds each neighborhood can get for DSL based on distance

Download is most important for regular internet usage. Generally the DL is at least twice what upload speed is for home users......depends on the connection tho. The only issue with cable is checking it at various times, in my experience it lags at high usage times as everyone shares the same lines in the neighborhood. I've seen swings of several Mbs depending on the times tested.

Yep.... I could play CS on the weekdays with LIGHTNING fast speeds. On the weekend it was crap, I lagged all over the place. I remember seeing quite a few Mb difference on speed tests given the day/time when I had cable.
BTW Michael... d/l speed is pretty damn fast. I bet it gets slower at around 7:00pm to 11:00pm and on the weekends!!

I had SBC DSL for years in my apartment without a single problem. When we moved to the house we had nothing but problems. I dropped connection 4-5 times a day. Everytime I called in to India they took me through the same 30 minute stuff and then told me it was my router. I went through 4 routers in the past 3 years. They would work great for a month and then start kicking me off again. I would them go back in and plug in an older router and it would work great for a month or so. Whenever a tech came out it worked so they told me that there was nothing that they could do. I finally got tired of paying for crap that doesn't work so just switched to TWC. It is more expensive, but faster, and most importantly it actually works!

Sounds like what I'm going through... I've had SBC DSL for going on 4 years now (at other places). I switched from cable a long time ago because of the peak usage times. However my problem has came back here... IT SUCKS AGAIN!! I might have to switch to TWC. I just want it to work!!

I have Time Warner- paying for 7MB down/500 up package- they offer a 10MB down/1MBup package also.
I monitor it often and it never varies by much. I recycle the modem about once a month when I notice things running slower

Question from a "techno idiot" Recycling the modem will help it run faster? How so?

It resyncs
It especially helps DSL modems
Power cycling router and modem once a month or when you are having trouble should be step one

Welp tired of the BS, Cable should be up and running Friday morning. ATT has ran me in a whirl of circles and pumped me full of BS... they kept saying the line dept would be assessing the situation it would be fixed asap. It works in the morning but the evening and late night it BLOWS. Right now I'm pretty sure I'm back to 9k d/l yet u/l seems very quick still. OH well after Friday I dont have to deal with their BS or slow ass speeds and I'll be out less $$ each month. Well see how cable goes... up to 10down and 1up.
