http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/07/05_dynolicious_opt.jpg (http://www.dynolicious.com/index-3.php#)The world has gone iPhone crazy since Apple released v2.0 of its sleek mobile device, and while GPS (http://www.autoblog.com/2008/07/14/shouldve-bought-a-garmin-testing-the-iphone-3gs-gps-capabilit/) and 3G have been big draws, the multitude of available software apps in the new App Store has been the real wild card. One app that has us really psyched is a new automotive performance meter called Dynolicious from BunsenTech. It uses the accelerometer inside the iPhone to let you record 0-10 through 0-100 times, quarter mile and trap speed, Lateral Gs, horsepower and more. Results are also displayed in real-time on the phone itself with graphs and a speedometer. You can also configure the tool with updates to your car, weight, before and after performance measurements, and keep a complete history of all your runs. The kicker is that you don't even have to plug in your iPhone anywhere, just set it in the cup holder and drive. The folks at Dynolicious promise 0-60 accuracy to within .08 seconds and a quarter mile speed to within 1.5 mph. The performance meter software should also work with the iPod Touch.

The Dynolicious performance meter is now available on iTunes (http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=286208729&mt=8) for $12.99 despite its own website saying that it's coming soon. The app has an average rating of four stars out of five so far with 11 user reviews and counting. We're going to purchase the software ASAP and take it for a spin, so we'll let you know soon if it delivers on its lofty promises. Check out more screen shots of Dynolicious in the gallery below. Thanks for the tip, Fooman!

Review of the software here (http://gizmodo.com/5034542/13-iphone-app-faces-off-against-embarrasses-150-dedicated-dynometer) and here (http://www.autoblog.com/2008/08/01/dynolicious-vs-v-box-and-dynojet/). Looks like it works much better than a GTech.

did anyone ever give this app a test? :icon_question:
my buddy has an old classic iPhone he'd sell fairly cheap if this app actually works on a consistent basis

thx

I played with it a little bit. I dont have any solid numbers on my truck to compare it to. It has been forever since I have been to a dyno or a track. I think that it is a pretty cool app. for the phone. I would tell him to go ahead and buy it.:tu:

Actually, he's going to sell me his first gen iPhone if I was interested. I already carry 2 cell phones:hammer: and don't need another. If someone thought it was cool, I'll probalby take it off his hands.

Worse case, it'll be an excellent data logger for the track. :burnout:
thx 4 the info~

I got the freebie version of PocketDyno....just shook it to the tune of 4314 HP and a 7.49 @ 225.57 MPH in the quater! 0-60 in 1.7 sec! Freakin sweet! One of these days I'll actually try it out in the truck.

its probably cool if you already own the phone (i would if i did)...in my case, i was looking at buying an older 1st gen iphone just for this app & to use it as a data logger when i was at the track. i decided to pass on it and stick with timeslips from the track. those mac people must think their s4it is gold plated or something..."$300!~dude its used & isn't even 3g! GTFOOH" i still need something to keep notes while i'm at the track though like tire pressure, timing, air temp, bottle pressure and all that other useless crap :tex

at&t has 3g referb ones now. $99 for the 8gb $149 for the 16GB... but that's still the cheap part. it requires a 2year contract plus an additional $30\month on the data plan.

Dittos here... I got the free PocketDyno application, too. I've tried it out a couple of times and was amazed at how accurate it is.

hmmm.. I tried both dynolicious and pocket dyno friday night.. both were at least .5 secs off in the 1/4 amongst other inaccuracies.
