Ive driven the trip to mom and dads in Upstate NY 10 or more times over the years. In everything from a Nissan Pickup, 87 Tbird Turbo coupe, 92 Ex Cab F150, and Gen 2 Lightnings. This year I mage the trip in my Lexus GS 350. Its a 22 hour+ grind. I typically go 14-16 hours the first day and get a hotel.
This year was the easiest trip by far. The comfort features and MPG of the Lexus made the trip the easiest ever. I got 28+ MPG on a 450 mile leg that included 3 hours over 85 miles an hour with a BMW following me thru Kentucky and Tennessee. On the way up I got over 32 avg for a tank. I could see it go higher if the car was empty, the driver lighter and more care was taken. Coming back I was in rain for at least 8 hours on and off. Typically driving in those conditions wears me out but the car had no issues, and I was surprised how little toll it took on me.
If you get the chance to stop for 2 hours in Bowling Green KY go spend $5 and do the corvette factory tour. Its cool - even if you Bleed Ford blue
