Got one at the "world headquaters" ? I wouldn't even know where to start with a turbo. Vortec wants $1,795 (that's minus the $500. core) for a new V2. It seems that they are phasing out the V1. Didn't mean to hijack your thread....

Built LS2 motor with stage 2 heads and kooks headers and cat back fast 90 intake etc etc. I have the full build sheet in my email I should copy it for you.
I am not nearly as versed on the LS series motors. I will be learning as I go

the Vornado's or the built ls2
Ive researched mods for my ls2 and find that adding a 120 HP is a BIG deal.
Headers add about the same on the vette as on the Lightning -
The heads and intake add a few more - the cat back a little more
The numbers just dont jump like on a lightning
Mine has CAI - Tune - Cat back and exhaust
It gained very FEW relative HP

From Magazine article......
GM High-Tech Performance, a magazine dedicated to fuel-injected GM performance vehicles, put a LS2 on the dyno at Livernois Motorsports to see what they could get with a couple of traditional hot-rodding techniques - a larger cam, and ported heads. Just swapping out the stock bumpstick for Livernois' mild "Stage I" cam yielded an additional 92 peak HP, with the somewhat wilder "Stage II" part picking up 98 HP for an even 500 HP. Align yourself with a decent calibration guy and you'll pass emissions with either cam, and will have bumped power up into the LS7 region for an investment of under $1K and a few hours under the hood. Spend another $949 on Livernois' CNC ported heads, and the dyno output tops 520 HP with 467 lb-ft of peak torque.
The motor in question has rods crank and the stage 2 heads from vengeance, and the stage 2 cam along with the CAI, ported fast 90 intake, kooks long tubes exhaust and tune. Seems reasonable to me but again new world for me
PS has dual Vornado's

Hummmmm.... cam?? LSx's love the cam swap!! If its an auto a descent stall is nice. If you wanna go real fast tho boost or bottle; altho there are some fast N/A's out there just usually not real practical for driving often on the street. Just like the lightnings tuning is everything!!

I'm pretty sure that article was done on an engine dyno!! I remember reading that!! However few out there find these numbers as "real" world. Maybe they know something everyone else doesn't!!
Any specs on those "stages" of H/C... that cam sounded pretty nasty in the previous vid. Dual Vornado's have to be good for 50 at the tires!!

It isn't hard to get 450-460rwhp out of a N/A LS1-LS2. Heads, cam, long-tubes with off-road pipes. Granted... its a _big_ cam to do that, and you're spinning the engine to 6800+rpm. A more streetable setup will still yield 430-440rwhp N/A, though, which is impressive.
But nothing beats a forced induction motor for bang-for-the-buck mods, which is why the L and Cobras are so easy to make go fast.
But 460rwhp out of a 3125lb car is gonna fly. :)

We built a dozen C5's and LS1 5.7L powered F bodies. MOST of the head/cam exhaust and intake cars dyno'd 430-460. The silver Z did 450 with Lingenfelter stage 3 LS6 heads and stage 2 cam 224/230 on a 112. My black FRC made a strong 440rwhp with Wheel to Wheel CNC heads and 224/224 581 lift on a 112. We ran a LB G5x2 or 3 cam in Darren's yellow zo6 it made 460 on Thunder racing stage 2 heads. The G5 cam was real close to piston tapping we fly cut the Diamond pistons for clearance it was .609 lift and about 232 duration on 110 or so. Then we sprayed it with two stages of NOS and one stage of propane and yielded 765hp and 813lb ft to the wheels on stock displacement.:evil
Of course the 6 liters and 6.2's are going to make another 20-30hp with the extra displ. Also the newer intakes are flowing like MAD. They didn't have FAST intakes back in my day... There is one better than the FAST now though, it is from Australia.

John, Grats on the the Vette! The car looks and sounds mean as hell!:icon_twisted: Gotta love the muredered out look. I too would love to join the ranks of "idiots" on this board.
I just thought I'd give you a blow by blow account of the gains we saw on Jeffro's car('05 6MT C6), nitrous not withstanding. I know most of you are familiar with the car. He bought the car in bone stock trim with about 22K-23K on the clock. The original owner must have taken pretty good care of her, because the car was very clean, and has run like a frickin' top from day one.
Anyway, in bone stock trim, it made right at 347-ish RWHP. He then added a Lingenfelter CAI, Dynatech 1 3/4" Long Tubes and U/D pulley(w/ stock mufflers). Power jumped to 377-380 RWHP(so figure 30). He then added a Corsa cat-back, but did not do a follow up dyno(due to cat-back gains being somewhat marginal).
Next came the Lingenfelter(21st Century) cam/valve springs, and U/D pulley. Don't quote me on this, but I believe the cam specs are around 224*int-232*exh duration @ .050, lift is around .580, w/ a 112* LSA. Car made 430 RWHP(so right at 50 HP increase(80 total).
He then added 3.90's, which aided in acceleration, but generally cause dyno numbers to read a smidge lower. He also added a ported intake(mouth)/throttle body somewhere in the mix, which I believe were good for 5-8 HP/10 TQ.
Lastly were the Quality Motorsports ported cylinder heads(unsure if they're CNC or hand ported), and a RAM dual disc clutch. The addition of the cylinder heads resulted in 465-ish RWHP(w/93 octane tune). So all in all, he picked up right at 115-120 RWHP. The car went from trapping 114 mph(stock) to 124+ mph(H+C), and picked up over a second in ET on street tires/DR's. On an actual drag tire, the car is good for very low 11's, maybe even high 10's(in good air) on the motor, assuming the rear end will stay in the car upon launch.
Anyway, just thought I'd confirm Terry's findings, in a step by step manner. Good luck with that bad boy John! That car should haul some serious ba!!z.:tu:

Glad you like it John!! Maybe it is a killer!! 500+ all motor w/ good street manors is badass!! I say you did a good job picking it out!!
RPM in Lewisville, SQR in Benbrook, or the almighty LG Motorsports (where money buys speeds - thats there slogan!!) in Wylie is what most will say for the metroplex shops. There are a few guys that do it as a side job Sam something, Sean Frease (sp?), Patrick G, or Chris something (used to be w/ AMS racing). Sorry I don't know the last names!! However I can get you in touch with them if wish!! Personally I'd stick with RPM in Lewisville. Brian runs a great shop, very knowledgeable, and customer service is second to NONE!!
I know you said DFW however if you want to venture outside DFW towards the south... GForce, LME, or LMR are excellent choices however are slighty higher $$$ wise, but they have wicked builds that will make you want to do something crazy with your own car!! They have turned out some nasty boosted cars - turbo, twins, F1, F1R, F3R, solids rollers, you name it they've prob done it on a LSx motor. Theres also HPE down that way, not a real popular shop (customer wise). You also have TSP right outside Lubbock (sp?) that can also tune.
Hope this helps!! :tu:

I will recommend four. 21CMC did my LPE Twin-Turbo install, and they change the oil in it now b/c the thing is/was still under LPE warranty. I like John Page a lot. I have not met any of the current tuners/installers personally, but I did have an issue with the car just last week... and I took it to them, figuring it was a turbo-related issue. Turned out to be a blown fuse to the ECM (surprised the car even ran), which is a fluke deal. They diagnosed the issue quickly, and had me back up and running in no time.
The other two I would trust are Patrick (who has been mentioned) and Andy Mages (ADM in Lewisville). I believe Andy primarily does TBSS stuff now, but he is very knowledgeable about the LSx powertrains and Vettes, in general.
Keith (Brian's dad) at RPM is a great guy who I've known for a decade. Very down to earth and honest.

All the techs are LPE trained and certified, and they turn out a lot of well-running vehicles, mine included.

10-25-2008, 12:34 AM
The best sticky tire that doesn't compromise handling at all is the Nitto 555RII.
I run 555R's in the rear (305/35-18... will fit a stock Z06 rear wheel) which is a little compromise in handling, but nothing like the BFG DRs which are downright dangerous in just about any hard cornering you want to do. I had BFG DRs on my Z06 (when I was running nitrous) and made sure they were burned up after 900 miles. They hooked great in a straight line, but otherwise were horrible. I would never use them again for anything except drag race duty. Above 80^F, the 555R's hook fine in 2nd gear for me with 600rwhp on tap.

I would still have my mid-10 second 5.0 Mustang if I drag-raced as much as I used to. The Vette is too much fun to _drive_ and drive hard to just be a drag car.
That doesn't mean it can't run great 1/4 mile times, but slicks and a 5k rpm clutch drop even with a built rear-end may end up in a trailer ride home.
Interestingly enough with my personal driving style, I cut a 2.0 60' with stock tires at 360rwhp, and primarily 2.0x with a 1.9 mixed in with 600rwhp. I just can't bring myself to hammer it too hard out of the hole.
Made for some crappy ETs, but I was pleased with 11.2 @ 138. The guy in the booth told me to get some slicks and run a 9.8. :icon_razz:
Glad to hear you're enjoying the car, John. They are a lot of fun. Keep us informed as to what you do about paint. I love my Electron Blue, but since I'm not getting rid of this car anytime soon, I've also thought about some custom paint schemes.

Ended up with the DRII's today 315/35/18 on the rear and the 295/45/17 in the front and really noticed the difference in traction after a few miles and spirited starts to get the silicone off
The car was squirrely with the toyos and I think these will give me a much surer footing
Thanks for the recommendation Wes. Nitto has a new tire due in march I saw at SEMA but really did not want to wait
