Well I made the trip East today to southern Florida and as we began our way into Florida the pilot let us know that we were carrying a marine soldier who had given his life in combat in Iraq.

We received the full water cannon treatment and when our plane approached the gate all other gates went quite and the family was escorted on to the tarmac. Our plane was surrounded by Police and fire rescue lights ablaze

We remained seated and allowed the Wife and her mother to de-plane and join the other family members. The Marines draped the coffin in the flag and proceeded to remove it from the aircraft.

I left the plane and the entire terminal was quite and one could hear a pin drop. I am a tough bastard but I have to say there was not a dry eye in the house including mine.

Time to remember those men and women in service and this particular exercise made me remember that the death total is directly tied to a family at home.

I don't know who this soldier was but God speed young man

It's a real sobering experience. I fly almost every week and even though I've experienced this a few times, it still gets me.

It hasnt happened to me on a flight but I am glad to see that appropiate respect was paid to the fallen soldier and his family.
