You will have to make a clamp for the bottom or use a piece of wood. Or buy an Optima mount off the web. Say, I think the Hot Rods By George dude makes them! Something like this style ebay item @ 190202420926

You remove the stock battery tray, remove the wheel and fender liner. Use 4 5/16 or 1/4-20 bolts and nylocs to drill the holes and mount the new tray. There is a vacuum pod on the back of the stock battery tray. I use industrial velcro and stick it to the fender.

All the batterys Orileys had the retaining wedge @ the bottom of the battery case was to short/had a vertical tab on the wedge that wouldnt fit in the battery pan fixed wedge receiver(bent lip on the pan).I wasnt gone to rotary file the tab off a brand new battery. The red optima fit like it was made for it.

Cause Optimas are group 24. Hence they don't fit Ford trucks.

I like his Death Wish series... never would have guessed right:twitch:.
Donnie says he has an Optima in the stock tray. He says he stole a few adapters that snapped on the bottom of the battery to make it wider at the bottom. I have seen some snap on adapters they come on top of new batteries in case you want to use them.. A billet tray is much cooler though.

Been running a Red-Top and a bungee cord for years. Problem solved.;)

IMO, Bronson, Eastwood and Lee Marvin rock the house old-school.

Pacino and DeNiro are working on it...

Both Yellow and Red tops mount fine in the stock tray. You just have to ask for the inserts for a Ford, they are free, but you have to ask for them.

I have had both installed in the stock tray and have a Red in now.

That would be like me showing everyone in Marshall Cty, OK. where all the buck-deer are.:icon_razz:

The Ls Red-Top battery retaining system is a highly technical and thoroughly engineered product with years of gov. R&D behind it... or something. :D

Check out Uncle Rocks battery retaining outfit. Termites like him.

I would get the red top. Yellow and blue are deep cycles. I used to buy them at Costco.

I think the stock battery is a 650, they take about 450 to crank. An optima should be around a 1000cca.
