There was a 6k mile '06 Quad-cab SRT-10 up at Huffines Dodge in Lewisville, so I went up there yesterday and took a test drive.
I really liked the color... best I can describe it is "Sooner Crimson". It was not the bright, candy-apple red. This was a color only offered in '06 and on the QC trucks. I'm a Longhorn fan, but always like a rich, metallic red on vehicles.
I was impressed with the roominess of the QC. It's basically as big as my 300C SRT inside. The seats were not quite as comfortable as the 300C, but ample... certainly as comfortable and supportive as the seats in the Gen 2 L. The interior is spartan, but not bad. No squeaks or rattles, but given it was owned by an older gentleman who only put 6k miles on it, it has not been abused.
The paint quality was ok. It has most likely been outside. I'm sure its nothing a good detailer couldn't get back to looking like new. The previous owner wasn't as anal as I am, though... lots of scratches on the inside tailgate...nothing a BedRug wouldn't hide.
The truck drove nice on the highway. It tracked ok (a little pull to the right, but I'm sure the alignment is slightly off), but it was comfortable and took bumps just fine. That's probably a function of the long wheelbase. It did feel extremely heavy, but I'm just not used to that. The brakes were outstanding. I didn't beat on it too hard, but it does not feel anywhere close to 500hp/525tq. Then again, I'm jaded. I'd say it probably runs low-14s which is what I think they claim for a QC Ram. Driving it normally (no stoplight derby every time) like I do my Lightning, it would make for a decent daily driver. The computer said 10mpg... honestly, I don't care.
They wanted $28.9 for it, and offered $21k for my 300C. I'm sure I could have worked something out with them if the truck had just knocked my socks off, but it didn't.
I know Wesman may have some comments here.
Sorry if this is not a great report. It may seem kind of bland and not very interesting. But that really sums up my initial impression of the truck, and probably the reason I didn't buy it.
