Hi all, ive been frequenting this forum, and a couple other L forums for a WHILE now. Ive found a L that i think im ready to pull the plug on. I just need someone that is fairly knowledgeable with these trucks to go with me to make sure im not missing anything. Again ive done my fair share of research, but i have no hands on experience, so i was hoping someone could help me look for certain things that are prone to failure, or problematic for these trucks.
The truck is at a Carmax in Fort Worth, but will be delivered to Garland Carmax. Id be willing to pick you up at your place, or wherever youd like to meet. Id also be willing to treat you to lunch/dinner and or drinks for doing this favor.
It is a black '02 with 31k miles. I will be trading in my 06 gto for this truck, and possibly my srt4 daily driver, im not certain on that yet. The srt is paid off is the only reason im thinking about trading it to, otherwise ill keep it and store the truck like i do the goat, and drive the neon everyday.
Thanks guys, and i hope to be a part of the family sooner than later.

When are you looking to go? I've been around these things long enough to know a thing or two.

Keep the Neon if you can, for when gas goes to $5 a gallon..

Thats even more than Kelly Blue Book quotes suggested retail for that truck. IMO that's a little much. It's a buyers market right now, so make sure you find the best possible price for what you want I just bought an 01 L two weeks ago, so I've been in your shoes recently.
I agree that you should keep the 'lil car to save on gas.

Way too high for a no haggle price. $15-15.5k max on an '02. $17.9k... that's a stock '04 truck price with the same mileage.
I know this sounds like a homer, but there are trucks here, with known history, that would be better choices...and I'd say that whether mine was for sale or not.
Now... that truck may have been owned by someone really meticulous, but you most likely won't _know_ that for sure.
Good luck with your search.

I would jump on Wes' truck
if its similar to what you are looking for - if I were in the market I would buy it

Ok I bought my '01 with 64k on it for $13,000.
It retails for $15,920
That's approxamotely a 12.25% Savings
The one your looking at retails for $17,180
$17,180
-12.25%
$15,075
Thats what I would consider a good deal.

There are several nice and 'known' trucks for sale in the club right now. I would buy one from here before I would ever go out into the market unless you know the seller personally. My .02
Compare the one you're looking at now with others in the clubs with nice mods and you can see its over priced.

i thought it was a little high myself, but as long as ive looked, and what ive looked at. Id be willing to pay a little extra for a clean LOW mile truck.
Would anyone care to post a link to Wes' for sale thread?
Im 23 and still live at home with dad, not that its a problem, i love my dad hes my best friend. My girlfriend is graduating college this year, and i wanted to buy a house rather than have 2 toys. So i figured with the positive equity i have on the gto, and the srt paid off it would be a heads up trade and i wouldnt be toting a note, therefore freeing up some money for household things.
Thank you all for the quick responses, and for the good info.
I really appreciate it guys
Brad
BTW if anyone frequents Rockwall, im the guy with the black gto on black wheels, parked at Starz cleaners for a while before i got the srt. There used to be a guy that came in with a red L often.
anyhow, thanks again.

It is a little more than the other one (I've already put the stock wheels back on it... they are absolutely perfect), but if you're willing to pay more for a well-maintained truck with an excellent history... it is what it is.
Completely sorted out (conservative tune). I've had absolutely NO reliability issues.
If you have ?s, let me know. If I put it back to stock/near stock, then my son gets it.

well, looks like the guy is a no show to look at the goat. Im gonna gather my marbles and give you a call pretty soon Wes, and hopefully come see your truck today.
which i dont know if is a good idea, cus im gonna be beside myself if it takes a little while to sell the goat, since i planned on taking a beating and doing a trade in....I am doing the best of my abilities to get this thing gone because im almost certain ill take your truck sight unseen.
Reminds me of when i met my first love, i knew i couldnt have her right then, so for a week i couldnt stop thinking of her and a way to win her heart.

you can always just take your GTO to carmax

its soo funny you say that i just called them, and MIGHT run it by there. Im just afraid they are gonna low ball me on it, when ive had the car since new and KNOW its been babied and flawless in every aspect.
someone buy my damn car, you can have it for 18k since im feeling froggy.
does anyone have experience selling to carmax without buying one of their vehicles?
WA 2 FST
12-05-2008, 05:28 PM
Yeah, they will low-ball you. They have to make $2-3k on each car. They might give you $18k... might be worth a try.

they go ahead and take the taxes out of whatever they give ya for your vehicle too

oh really? so that would explain why their offer may be lower than others.
I guess if all else fails, i will be going to carmax tomorrow and see what theyll give. Come monday if it doesnt sell, then they can have the damn thing.
Cause i really dont wanna let Wes' truck slip away.
Thanks all for pointing his vehicle out to me, he seems like a stand up guy that takes as much pride in his vehicles as i do. I cant wait to do business with the man.
