My big desktop monitor took a crap today and I don't feel like spending the extra cash for new one right now- I'm cheap, and broke this time of the year.
I have a 17" flat screen that I currently use in a dual monitor config with my laptop. I want to use the same monitor on my desktop so in effect I'm sharing one monitor between two computers.
I know this is possible, just like using an A/B switch for a printer between two pc's I just can't find the hardware I need.
USB options are out on the laptop since I'm out of ports. I thinking the VGA cable will be the best route I just need some type of switch.
Somebody please point in the correct direction.

Thanks Mark but I'm also trying to regain some working space on my desk. I could not believe the room I gained by dumping that 19"

depends on if both PCs use USB keyboards or Ps2 connections
you can get an old school KVM switch (http://www.amazon.com/D-Link-KVM-121-2-Port-Video-Switch/dp/B000FBF38I/ref=pd_bbs_7?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1231379880&sr=8-7) you woudlnt need to use the mouse keyboard pieces if you didnt want to

Steve, you would've had my HP 19" old-school monitor before I gave it away, recently.
I'll keep an eye out for you, though.

Theres no way to share one monitor for two computers unless you unplug it from one and into the other every time.

I guess? I never used one before I just don't see how one monitor two computers would work, but what do I know my degree is just in computer networking:d

I use this setup at home. 27" monitor with Desktop computer and laptop docking station for one of my laptops to go in. Did this because I didnt wanna put vista on my home computer. So I bought a laptop with it on it and use it with the big screen every now and then. Works great for me. :tu:

Thanks Garett- the one that just bit the dust was the one I got from you last time-that monster Compaq. I'm trying to get away from the big tubes since they take up so much room.
I plan to get a 21" widescreen come tax time so I can see multiple apps at one time.

Actually there's an easy way to do it. Damon H runs it this way on his desktop at work. He's got dual monitors that a desktop and laptop share and you can even move the windows/screens etc between the monitor itself and the laptop screen.
I'll send him this way to let you know how he has it set-up

Yep I'm already sharing the one with the laptop- if I could share both with both computers that would be bonus:tu:

Don't know if you bought one already or not, but I have about half a dozen KVM's in my closet that would accomplish what you want to do and you are more than welcome to any one of them.
I have a KVM switch/cable that you can have. Don't use it any more.
When hooked up you can use one monitor one keyboard and one mouse to run two computers. Press control & scroll lock simultaneously to switch between PCs.
