View Full Version : anyone in a black convertible SVT mustang get pulled over today ?

I was getting harassed by a black SVT mustang and no matter how much I slowed down he kept revving etc ... His GF with the pigtails must have been cold since the top was down and it was 55 degrees or so - Well Irving police got him . My lucky day - He got smacked twice and pulled over - no I wont say what had happened prior ....:evil:evil

Not sure it was 2003 or newer - it was pretty fast - just not fast enough -

and like I said to the co-driver/witness - how fast does he want to go ? The mustang will run out of steam long before the vette will

Stock C6 Vette = low-12s
Stock Terminator Cobra = 12.8-13.0
Stock C6 Vette = 175+mph top speed
Stock Cobra = uh, don't even try it

Add some mild mods to the Cobra...sure it may be a little quicker to 80mph, but most likely only at the track on a sticky tire.

Highway race ... Stock C6 > '03-'04 Cobra

Not sure he was kidding. He did just say the other day that a gto could eat a modded Lightning for lunch. :bs



5.7 gto's are POS.I have a 05 6.0 auto and will eat your lunch everytime even with a 4 lb pulley tune lightning.Lightnings just weigh 2 much.GTO's are chicks cars anyway.The only one i liked was bought by Tony Stewart in Arizona auction,i think it was a beautiful body from 69 or 67?? with an up to date modded motor.Sold for 120'000 by Tony.:tu:


I beg to differ....A guy at work has one and we've went at it several times and I pull on him every time. Only time he can get me is from a 50 or more roll. From a dig, nope. :nono:

I do have a little more than a 4# though. But not too much.

My '04 L with nothing more than a CAI, 4# pulley, and 93 octane tune by Terry ran 12.81 @ 109mph with a 2.01 60' time. There is no stock GTO running that time, even at ATCO or Englishtown (below sea level, downhill).

A stock C6 vette (not that Doug's is stock) from a highway speed punch will walk an '03-'04 Cobra unless it is capable of running low-11s. Period, the end. Those Terminators are awesome 1/4 mile cars... no one is debating that. From a 55-60mph punch running to "whenever you want to stop" will be the Vettes game unless its a well-modded Terminator.

Lot of factors,Auto/Manuel trans,Weather,Driver,Tires,Street or Tack.In Teaxs GTO has the edge:tu:Ill post when i take mine to Enniss.I have a bud who can drive my L. and race me.Not ready to pay for tires right now.I probally have 3 or 4 plugs in each tire from wife driven the curb and all the new roofs from last year hail storm:hammer:Mine is auto with perfomance package.My opinion is its a drivers raceGTO>Lightning texas weather.

I understand the factors well, and you're right... they make a difference. If you have a stock GTO and run below 13.1 I will be surprised. As I posted above... an L with $500 in mods will beat that repeatedly... hot, cold, doesn't matter. A GTO probably has better top-end.

I know there are lots of modded GTO's out there that are really quick/fast. Don't get me wrong on this. But a stock one will not beat a well-tuned, well-driven, L with a tune, pulley and CAI...at least not mine in that configuration.

Well to put Wes' theory to the test we can use my sons stock Lightning

I have a 4# pulley in the garage and I can get Terry to tune it and lets go

racing! I need to get my Harley to the track after Terry put the Kenne Bell

on it as well.

I bounce around the GTO forum and most 6. 0 GTO run 13.0-13.4.However several claim in the 12's with exhaust K+N which is what i have.12.8 to 13.4 is a wink of the eye.My best lightning run was 13.2 with 4lb pulley/fan/exhaust/tune 90 degree day.Stock lightning wouldnt have a prayer.Its a well matched race.However from the looks of our forum 1/4 times i cant drive mine for chit.:tex.No way do i doubt that Wes's experience or his truck.I think you had a bit more than a 4lb pulley though.As far as Enniss Todd.I am gona go again this spring.I aint scared to eat crow:tu:I am the first one on the street to try and punish a LS2 goat with my truck LOL..

I dont think Wes ever took the K.B. to the track.I saw his 4lb/tune run 12.8 which is impressive.I think he left out heat exchanger and a few other goodies on that beast:evil as well as he is very experienced driver.

Never ran the truck with the KB. The truck made 393rwhp with the mods listed. I didn't conveniently forget the heat exchanger or Magnaflow cat-back. I _honestly_ forgot them. However, if anyone thinks a cat-back does anything, then they haven't been around this game very long. It's a sound-effect, in essence.

A heat-exchanger only helps enhance power made on the street, allowing you to avoid heat-soak in the Texas heat. At the dragstrip, it does nothing at all, unless you are hot-lapping it, and I didn't do that. In fact, most likely it adds weight to the front of the truck being that it holds more coolant than the stocker. If you want to get the best cooling effect at the track, you drain the HE and dump ice/ice water in the intercooler reservoir. I didn't do that, either.

I do see that I had an electric fan on there at that time (only time I've ever run the truck... LOL). That helps a little. Probably 5-8rwhp. Less than .1 in ET.

Stock GTO's in TX heat runs low-13s on a good day, most likely mid-13s if over 85^F. I guess the fact that I've seen it with my own eyes doesn't count.

No doubt the lightning has the edge,and i never doubt what WA 2 Fast says,and you know i like to stirr up chit:evil. but still a close race.GTO does have 180MPH top end:evilNever had the gutts to do that one though.Few things about it,has electrical problems,alignment problems,rear end issues.Other than that a cool fast car for what it is.I deff. like the 03 or 04 Cobra better.Ive pissed off a bunch of GTO owners telling them its a chicks car.Its my wifes daily driver,she loves it.I cant get in it whithout bumping my head and cant stand the all electrical moving seats that are so slow and eat motors especially when you need to get someone out of the back seat.Engine wise,been flawless.Having access to both sets of keys,ill take the Lightning:twitch:

And I'm just stirring it back, bro. It's all fun.

The powerplant is excellent in the GTO. I liked it in our Trailblazer SS. The thing just had too many other problems to keep it. I drove a 6-speed GTO and liked it. I think the seats and dash layout are excellent. It needed about 100hp more for my taste, but a 400hp 4-seater for the price cannot be beat.

Had a guy in a White Chevy - looked like a rental Malibu or impala, make 3 or 4 high speed passes by me on 635 then 35 n on Sat about 11pm

We both headed east on 190 from 35 and for some reason he was unable to keep up with me on the sweeper exit/entrance .... :evil:evil

I guess the 6 bangers straight line speed with a long wind up doesnt translate into 120+ heading into a sweeping 90 :nono::nono:

Beau I know you are not afraid for sure. I think using Lances truck we already know a couple things, 1st that one time we went to Ennis it ran 14.0 with inexperienced drivers Lance and me (LOL)
We can put a few things on Lances stocker and go have fun, heck if the Lightning loses oh well, but #2. we can see how much the pulley and tune change a stock L.

I went 150 + within 2 hours of owning my Vette - It didnt seem ready to give up - there have been a number of tests of stock cars doing close to the stated 180

Yours is a LS2 mine is a LS1, maybe the mph limiter is higher in the LS2 Vettes

I really doubt that a GTO can hit 180mph stock

I don't think there is a limiter on the LS2 Vettes. I think top speed on them is limited by aero/gearing.

Not sure about the GTO. I know it has to have a higher top-end speed than a mildly modded L.

Etimated yes, but if it would have been closer to 180 then they would have said 180(est.). So I am sure it was more like 173...174...175. Not a 179...180.

35-195 in just 15 seconds? :rolleyes: That's more than 600rwhp. I don't think a 427 LPE TT Vette can do that, and I don't think a 1000rwhp Viper does that, either.

I'm thinking that might be on a dyno, even though the camera is shaking.

Personally, I have no doubt a stock GTO will outrun a Lightning on the top-end.

doubt it, its been stock for way too long, I'm going on vacation for the next week and its going under the knife at Quality Motorsports while I'm gone, cai, maf, AFR heads milled to raise compression, cam, injectors, 6 speed auto tranny with stall, long tubes, off road x pipe, coil overs, sway bars, and big brake kit :tu:

when its finished i'll be able to take corners at 180mph+ how will your gto handle around the corners :rolleyes:
