View Full Version : Carbon Fiber Drive Shaft

The stock steel drive shaft in my ole F150 wasn't going to cut it with the new motor so Go_dzila got a new shaft. It weighs about 1/2 the weight of the stocker and is balanced up to 10,000 rpm.

The color is just like in the picture and the ends are joined with high torque epoxy. My original input shaft was balanced with the unit and it came with new U-joints installed. This shaft is also being used on the Monster Truck Circuit.

I had one similar made for one of my 300zx TT's , made by ACPT....they make CF driveshafts for everything from the military to race cars

What was the price tag on that? I didn't even know that was such a thing.

The shaft was $600 but included everything I needed to bolt it up to my truck. I am told it has a different feel from the metal shafts on the shifts. It is supposed to torque a little on the shifts making them not hit as hard, which I hope will take it a little easier on my drivetrain. I considered an aluminum shaft but on my F150 the shaft is about 3 inches longer than the Lightning and I would have been limited to 5800 shaft rpm with a 60 inch aluminum shaft. I am told there is a 20% pad on that number, My motor is 7500 rpm capable, so I couldn't see being shaft limited.:burnout:

UH, are you saying that us Regular Ole F150 guys have longer shafts than the Lightning guys?

I think maybe he has the 4R70W tranny in his truck and not the 4R100.:cool:

Hey, you guys are good! I have an Art Carr built 4R70W with a built 8.8 rear end. I would like to change to the lightning rear with the discs but will probably break the 8.8 first. I should be able to have this shaft cut to fit that setup.

I like the weaved pattern:tu: CF is awesome stuff. Not to mention that adhesive holds like 1200HP on slicks:eek2:
