View Full Version : FFW Tuned Exhaust System?

Check this out. Used to have a KTM 600 4-stroke that had a Supertrapp exhaust. Basically, you could increase the motor's torque by increasing the backpressure on the exhaust system. You do this by removing washers or discs from the system. If you added discs, then the torque number would go down, but the horsepower would increase. So..................................

Flats Man and I decided to try the same theory with removeable stainless steel washers. Why mess with taking off your toneau and tailgate to remove 1/10 of a second when you can adjust your ET by replacing a larger washer with a more restricted one?

Don't know if this will actually work, but it will give me something to mess with while I'm at the track. http://www.fordvschevy.com/forum/images/smilies/shifty.gif
Washer sizes are 2 1/2, 2 3/8, 2 1/4, and 2 1/8. The 2 3/8" size is in right now.

Make two runs back to back --- One with the rear view mirrors rolled out and one rolled in and see what the ET difference is--- More than you would think!!!:nana2 My test have shown almost exactly 1/10 of a second on a truck running just a CAI.

Did you see the thread a while back where the guy put cardboard in front of his grill and claimed 5 mph or something ??

Hey Six, those look better than I thought! It will be interesting to run some test runs and see if we can get ole Go_rila a little constipated during qualifying and then let her rip during the heats. At least you should be able to cover your dial in.

Hasn't SuperTrapp been doing this for years? I use to change angled baffles on my 900RR superbike to adjust for low end torqe needs or mid to high end RPMs. I also had one on my S&S custom hardtail with my 113cc engine so I could increase my low end torque to smoke that huge 2.0 tire on the back:D Looks good Sixer:tu:

Did you go and modificate my system;) You may need a smaller circle. Usually backpressure builds torque/ flow builds HP. Our trucks don't have the RPM range to affect much. The Borla Fbody system had a similar restrictor plate system. Most made best power with the middle sized one vs. open. If your truck still has all 4 stock cats you need to fix that before you mess with the tips IMO.

All your system are belong to me. http://www.fordvschevy.com/forum/images/smilies/evilgrin.gif Actually the whole purpose of this thing is to predictably (key word) change 1/4 ET. Really no value on the street as these things will apparently rattle loose before you run through a tank of gas. Just a little "kit" to take along to the track next time I go. Maybe an experiment on the dyno as well.
