Well I am looking at my schedule at work and it seems I am scheduled to be flying back in that night from a trip to Washington. Looks like I might have to do some reworking of the flight if I can. :tex AND see about getting some of these mods I have installed on my bed on the truck instead. :d Damn looks like I have my work cut out for me if I wanna try to make it.
I will start working on the flight issue today and see what I can come up with.:bs

I really want it done for the showdown, but I'm 90% sure it wont be, the rear end will take a month at least, it is completely apart and sandblasted to get all the junk off of it, then the 4-link mounts need to be welded as well as the new shock mounts, then get it powder coated glossy black, then assemble the rear end with the gears, brakes, true trac
then I still have the front suspension/brakes, fuel system, electrical. . . . .
Maybe we can set up another GM/Ford shoot out this fall

just wondering why is it gonna get ugly? Oh and ill be there in my 05 5.3 silvy its slow.
To tell you the truth, I have not seen very many newer Chevys on the street or the track that can hang with a Lightning. When my truck was bone stock, I got beat twice by other trucks at the track. One was a reg. cab Dodge with a 377 stroked hemi and the other was an Intimidator SS that I don't know what had been done to it, but it was far from stock. I'm not sure what those guys had wrapped up in their trucks, but I'm sure it was way more than the 14K I have in my truck. Plus, the Dodge guy blew his truck up before the night was over.:( Are all of these awsome trucks ya'll got garage queens or what? I've run a few SS trucks on the street and they were rather boring. Don't get me wrong, I'm a Chevy man at heart and this is my first Ford, but when it comes to a Sports Truck, the L is the way to go. It is the total package, not just a straight line runner. As for the "it's going to get ugly" statement, you'll see what I mean come May 1st.:evil

I did not say there are no fast Chevy trucks out there. I own one. What I said is they will be surprised when all of these L's show up. Not many people, even FORD people, know what kind of engineering went into these trucks. I know some people that think a Lightning is an F150 with an appearance package. If you look at that other forum where this whole mess was started, you'll see a bunch of dorks that think their trucks can beat a Lightning. Maybe they can and then again maybe not. We'll have to wait until May 1st to find out. But I do know that they need to bring more than a 5.3 with a tune, open exhaust, and convertor if they want to have a chance.

There are plenty of them out there. The problem with the street is probability. You have to first happen across a Lightning or other fast truck. You then have to feel them out to see if they want a quick run. You then have to have the room to run...those factors all being met happen too far and few between. :(
Are all of these awsome trucks ya'll got garage queens or what?
Mine is my daily driver. I also take it on trips. I drive mine 40 miles round trip every day, have under 20k in the truck/engine/turbo combined, and will walk most of what I encounter on the street. Not bragging, not trying to start anything, just stating facts.

True, but I it seems like every time another truck throws a rev at me at a light it's a joke. You expect some competition then you find out all he's done to his truck is the intake and exhaust. I guess that's why they threw the rev, just to hear their pipes. I'm not saying my truck is super bad, my only mods are a 4lb pulley and intake work, but all the other trucks I've run on the street and track, with the exception of the two I mentioned, were slow. Not bragging, no BS, just facts.
Sounds cool. Hope to see it next month. Maybe I have not run into you on the streets because I don't go to Mesquite very much. The cops there are real TOOLS.

But I do know that they need to bring more than a 5.3 with a tune, open exhaust, and convertor if they want to have a chance.
i dont think we'll be suprised man, believe me there is penty of badass bowties out there, my truck is my daily also but i dont live in texas, but ill be at ennis in my 5.3 you can come pick on it if you want.

As for the "it's going to get ugly" statement, you'll see what I mean come May 1st.:evil
like moze my truckis my daily driver... and i drive it EVERYWHERE... im almost at 200,000 on the clock as it sits right now and still on the original motor... actually stock everything except the cam inside the motor... as for having 14k in your truck it all depends on the timeline you base that upon... you can pick up an 02 silverado and have alot less than 14 in it and be WELL over 500-600 hp
True, but I it seems like every time another truck throws a rev at me at a light it's a joke. You expect some competition then you find out all he's done to his truck is the intake and exhaust.
but all the other trucks I've run on the street and track, with the exception of the two I mentioned, were slow.
there will be alot of street trucks out there that will suprise you :tu:

I have been talking w/ the Chevy guys and this is what we came up with so far.
Make a few dial in passes and write the a time on your back window as followed.
13.00-13.50= L13
13.60-14.00= H13
12.00- 12.50= L12 ect. You get the picture.
Then we can match up races acorrding to your time. If you go too fast ie.(L12 on your window and you go 11.80) you lose. We could also have some grudge races before or after for the folks who still want to have a pissing match. Also maybe the two fastest trucks go head to head.
Does this sound good to everyone?

I don't have a DS loop and they didn't even check last time I was there. And I was running slicks the whole time.
Are you aware of what the drive shaft loop is for? Running slicks with no drive shaft loop is worse than drunk driving. That drive shaft flying out from under your truck becomes a harpoon which could kill the guy in the lane next to you. This ain't one of those rule violations that only risk your life, it is one that could kill someone else.
Maybe you folks don't want me to show up. I snitch out safety violations and don't really care if you know I am the one who did it. The drag strip and the rules should be respected. Rules came about due to folks learning the hard way.
How many folks here watched what happened to Frank at lightning fest a couple years back. I have seen a few other major crashes while racing in the FFW circuit a couple years. Accidents happen quick and when you least expect it. Having the proper safety equipment can keep you or someone else alive if the worse happens.

+1. DS loop was my first mod. Like the man said, you never know when stuff is going to happen. In the many years I have been hanging out at tracks, I've seen a lot of bad things happen. I know personally I was glad I had the proper safety equipment when my motor decided to let go one year at Super Chevy. It happened suddenly, without any warning, while I was doing 130mph at the top end of the track. I was in the right lane and the car took a hard left and looped around when the slicks hit the oil and water. I had a pretty hard impact with the left retaining wall, but walked away unhurt. I wish I could say that for the car.:( As a precaution they put me in the ambulance and check my vitals while I watched the track crew load my car on a rollback. The medic said my heart rate and blood pressure were elevated. I looked at her and said no sh*t, I just crashed my car! It was hard to deal with at the time, but I realized how lucky I was to be ok when my friends told me how bad it looked.
Oh hell!! I'm in real trouble....Me three

I got a response back today and she had some questions, so I thought I would post it let yall voice your opinions:tu:
She asking if we have anyone that would want to announce the shootout, maybe one guy from Lightning side and one from the Chevy side?
That sounds great! If you could get me some information about the different groups that are racing that way I can post some information online next week. Also, do you have one or two guys from each group that could come up and do some commentating while those two groups run on Friday? We do not have an announcer on Fast Fridays, so it would be great if you have a guy or two who could come up to Race Control during that time and I would give them the mic.
My idea is to designate 2 lanes for your group. One for Lightning forum and one for Chevy forum. The lanes would be open all night from 7pm-12am. Do your guys just run as many times as they want? Are you going to be keep up with that or are we going to have to make announcements? What is your idea on that? Also, the dial ins that you are putting on the back of their trucks…that is just for you, correct? We do not do dial ins on Fast Fridays it’s just time trials. Are you wanting us to put dial ins on the board? Let me know what you’re thinking about that. Also, we do have a lane already designated for grudge racing all the trucks have to do is come into those two lanes side by side so they are pulled to race each other. We do not rearrange in the grudge lanes. You run who you are next to. We give out a lane assignment sheet to the racers when they go thru tech.
Let’s pin down those details and I will get you the lane assignments so you can go ahead and communicate those details with your guys. I’m really excited and hope that this forum challenge is a great new hit for FAST FRIDAYS!!
Thanks,
Ashley Kellough
Competition Director/Event Supervisor

IMO I think we should just run each other. (No dial ins) If you come across a chevy or a ford, whatever the case maybe and they whip your ass...then you know not to race that guy again. I say grudge it all night. As for calling the races, that would be cool. I'm not opposed to a little mic time. Don't know how good it would be. But I'd give it a shot.

If I understood a post made earlier in one of these threads, they were talking about using the dial ins as more of an index than a bracket. The idea being to make the races somewhat even. Take my truck for instance. What would be the point of someone with a 12 second truck trying to beat me? It would look like the special Olympics. It sounds like the track is getting indexing confused with dial in bracket racing.
I would only be willing to talk on the mic if I can smoke lots of pot while I do it, but then I would not be able to race....or even drive home. So with this in mind....I nominate Shiner to work the mic for Talon.:evil But we all get to make fun of you on the forum the next day.:D

we were talking about setting it up like this
Make a few dial in passes and write the time on there back window as followed.
13.00-13.50= L13
13.60-14.00= H13
12.00- 12.50= L12
So on and so forth
and if someone sandbags there dial-in and runs out of there index then they loose the race

The way its going to work is there will be two dial in passes so you know what class your in, there is no reason a 14sec truck needs to go against a 10sec built truck heads up.
Once you get your dial in we will separate into classes and its heads up racing from there, thats pretty much how it was done at pinks all out a few weeks back
nacklas
04-23-2009, 05:28 PM
i say keep the "bracket" style for the first two races people do, that way you can dial in you truck
then run heads up from there in your class, they did a modified version of this at pinks all out a few weeks back
