Oil in Air Fitler

I was looking at my air filter today and noticed it was pretty dirty so I removed it. In doing so I noticed that there was oil that had settled near the air filter and some had made its way into the filter. Any ideas of what might be causing this? I don't have an oil separator, will this fix the problem? Now, I'm about a month overdue for an oil change and noticed that I was 3 quarts down, is that normal?

Stock air-filter/air-box? Open setup? These trucks like motor oil.

Oil in filter normal, oil separator will take care of that most times, three quarts low well not to good, your burning oil how many miles??
