Any high H.P. vehichle with traction control, never turn it off and punch it on a turn.Perfect video of why.If you gona turn it off and punch it,do it in a straight away, even then the car gets loose/sideways but recovers.Around turns unless you are experienced or smart enough to get out of it your gona loose it.I have done it in the same car(GTO) as the video. My 02 T/A would push your foot off the accelerator around turns. Not sure if their T-Control was off but looks like it,my GTO gets loose even with it on.

Why was there a huge group of people watching and a camera on this? Does it happen often enough to encourage crowds?

It was a rather large annual GTO meet up in New Jersey that they were having that day. There was a long thread about it on the ls1gto forum a little while back.

Here's one of the pics from it.
