That sucks Steve, speaking of a/c though, what would be the best way to check for "black death" on my system? Just get the refrigerant evacuated and then pull the orifice tube out? get paid 3 times in July so I'm definitely spending on fixing the a/c with the "extra" check, so be ready!

Bring it on over to the house... We'll fix you up quick. I just did Diaboloc's A/C yesterday.
Now today my A/C quit... I just popped my system open to find, "black death". Looks like I'll be without A/C for a while because I'm too poor for the parts right now. (Though I may put it all on the Visa... it is HOT!)
But to answer your question, yes, open up the system & take a look inside. If the orifice tube is clogged & the compressor oil is black, you've got issues.
To give you an example of how bad mine was when I opened it today.. The orifice tube clogged & the pressure went high enough to push the orifice tube damn near to the inlet elbow of the Evaporator. I've never had to replace an Evap in one of these trucks... I guess that I'm about to find out what a PITA it is.
