I have enjoyed taking pictures for years and as a geek and a pack rat I have hundreds of thousands of pictures
They are kinda organized in folder names, sorta, BUT finding pictures is tough with that many to look through.
Today I downloaded Picassa 3.5 (http://picasa.google.com/) which includes face recognition
It goes through all your images and finds faces, it then groups similar faces together. Once you tell it who they are it shows you ALL the pictures with that persons image in it. In my case it will likely take a few days to index all the images BUT the technology is pretty amazing - its finding faces in pictures on the desks of other people. I tagged a 6 or 7 year old picture of my niece and it easily found the many other pictures of her even though she is now 12 and her face has changed a lot.
Picassa (http://picasa.google.com/) is also a good free picture editor and manager BUT the people tagging is pretty cool. It sets it apart.
I know that Apples Ilife does the same thing - but this is free and its rated to do it better by some.
