Republican Scott Brown won a major upset victory in Tuesday's special election for the U.S. Senate seat formerly held by liberal Democrat Ted Kennedy. With 89 percent of the results counted, Brown had 52 percent of the vote to 47 percent for Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley, the Democratic candidate, according to the the National Election Pool, a consortium of media organizations including CNN. Independent candidate Joseph Kennedy, a libertarian who is not related to the Kennedy political family of Massachusetts, had 1 percent.

Thank GOD !!

I think a group in a sealed room controls the outcome of all elections and laws. A "republican" winning this one is just good media and keeps hope alive for some...:icon_eek:

I have somewhat mixed feelings.. if the Dem won, then the Dems would have continued to go down a road that I felt would have turned the Senate and the House back over to the Repubs in Nov. But since the Repub won, I am concerned that they will move to the middle and maintain control of both houses..

Our type of government requires compromise, as in middle of the road. So if GOP win in Mass forces the congress and Obama to move to the center, that is probably a good thing. When Clinton did, some things got accomplished. If Bush had moved to the center, we would never have invaded Iraq. Just my 2c.

What does that have to do with politics... One gun is enough is keep up with.

I think its pretty interesting that after all that time in the Senate, Kennedy was supposedly so beloved that voters chose a different party.

Hallelujah on Brown's win, although I share Dana's concern.

All I know is I'm happy he won. No matter what the reason. He will help fight the health care crap!

Having lived and still have family in Taxachusettes this is a very very significant change for that state. This state is the CA of the east. Had very strict gun laws in the 70s.
