Apparently, I have lost the GO RILA plate monicker to the system. Not only can I not get six letters and a space any more, but a single year based on six total spaces will be $195/year; $495/five years; or $595/ ten years.

Yeah, right...:(

The website says the price is less than $60 year. What they don't tell you is that you have to buy the plate for 10 years at a price of $595 for it to cost less than $60/year.

Can you still go through TXDOT? This looks like a 3rd party company that's trying to jazz it up and charge more.

Only option for vanity plates in Texas now according to the Denton County Tax office. They wouldn't renew my GO RILA plates.

If you go the 10 years, are the plates transferable to another vehicle? I went to get my new plates for my truck and wanted the new plate and she said I could not have them on a truck. BS, I saw every old POS truck on the road with the new plates. Stupid A**:hammer:. I guess they just wanted to get rid of the old ones first but should have been my choice. She also said you could only have 6 letters on a personell plate so does anyone know if they will change that in the future?

I went the rounds with them as well. Apparently this is the only option, but they did tell me that if you already have personalized plates that you are supposed to be grandfathered in as long as they don't expire on you. I guess we'll see in June when both of mine are up.

Damn that is BS there, not sure how it works here in Kansas yet. But soon I will be looking into it for my project Truck.

I renewed my truck in January just before I sold it and the lady at the reg office said something similar to the grandfathered thing to me. She said as long as I never let it expire that I could renew every year just as I have been and that the new pricing didn't matter. But now my trucks gone, so I have my LEAVN-U til next january. Then it'll be leaving me.....I don't need it anymore, my cars not fast enough. :icon_rolleyes:

You could always rent-out the plate for those of us that may be too scared to dump their SO's in person. Just leave it on the pillow as your walking out the door. She should get the message.. :evil:evil

Just a new way to screw the consumer and grab some more tax money. How do they figure it is cheaper and better to outsource this $hit...

I just got the renewal for the L in the mail and it was still the same $40 to the state.

I sold the Mustang and am having those plates transferred to the new ride. They said that it would not be a problem, but we'll see in a couple of weeks if they let me transfer or if I have to start with the new company.

The metal plate itself is good for 8 years. When you have to get a new physical plate you will have to pay the new rates.

Even then I wonder if they will let me keep what I have on the plate. I have 4-digits on the plate and now they supposedly do not allow that.

If you have the plate all you do is renew it. The new rules and fees only apply to new plates.

Wonder when they started this ? I got three personalized plates last Sept and just got the renewals for them, all are $102.50 to renew, $40 of which is for "special plate fee"

Also in the envelope is a flier that says www.dmv.tx.gov is the new one stop shop for all things registration and titling.

That link will take you to what the DMV does handle, like dealer plates, charity plates, and so forth - it also will link you to MyPlates.com for regular specialty plates.

Meant to post this before.

"It's the second time My Plates has been associated with inflated details about its auction. The company initially said five other states raised millions for their budgets in similar sales, but The Dallas Morning News found that none had done so. My Plates apologized, calling it an unintentional error based on faulty research."
