JOB TITLE: Optical Coating Engineer

Summary of Job:
Will develop coating processes and equipment setup for precision optical filters, lenses, and other optical elements. Will be responsible for creating Work Instructions and Run Sheets. Will analyze product performance using spectrophotometers, perform failure analyses, and document/implement corrective actions. Individual will also be required to design, develop, and transition into production, new optical thin film coatings for precision optics. Support production and R&D manufacturing on product development. Provide cost estimates for coatings on bids and proposals. Be responsible for coating tool design and process work instructions. Develop and implement test procedures and test equipment specifications and procedures. Support and train manufacturing production/deposition personnel. Perform coating analyses for compliance to specifications. Monitor production processes and equipment for yield and cost improvement initiatives. Interface with customers on coating requirements. Prepare technical reports for proposals.
Basic Position Requirements:
Minimum 5 years experience (10-15 yrs preferred) designing and producing optical thin film coatings in a production environment. Versatile and proficient with Filmstar software or similar design programs. Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel. Must be familiar with I.A.D. coating equipment and processes. . Must be proficient in coating chamber operating software such as CIMPLICITY, SYMPHONY, and DESIGNLINK.
Education Requirements:
Bachelors degree in Engineering with specialization in Optical Engineering.
Qualification Extras:
Preferred 10-15 years working knowledge and experience and familiarity with military coating specifications for laser blocking and transmission. Previous coating design experience in laser protection coatings and laser A.R. coatings.
Security Clearance Requirements:
Applicant(s) selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information per NISPOM 2-204.
