I have a good combination of skill and nerves behind the wheel. That being said I do not think I would competitively race up Pikes Peak. The margin for error is measured in inches... The surface changes from asphalt to loose gravel to hard pack. Tire choice alone baffles me. It was windy as hell and about 37 degrees on top...

They are working hard to get it ready for the big race...

I would really like to speak with the drivers and see how hard they push the corners. I bet they do 90% straight line and 70% in the corners. That is the most I would do.

its been a long time sense I was there last. I forgot how steep it is in some spots. did you try the "worlds best doughnuts"? also had a friend crash up there over a turn but was lucky and only ended up with minor injuries. I would agree that the people that race there are a whole different kind of racer especially the semi's

I have driven up that mountain at leat a dozen times. It is breath taking and a little scary. For those of you who have never been. In the video where all you see is dirt and no trees, it's because at that elevation trees can not grow. It is definatly a sight.

Went up Pike's Peak yesterday. Pretty cool. It is paved all the way to the top now except for a 1-mile section just below the lodge (about mid way). I predict fatalities in the race sometime in the next three years due to excessive speed in the wrong places.
