View Full Version : lowering suspension?

I am considering lowering my 2003. I want to be conservative, because the front barely clears curbs when parking. I found an Eibach kit (springs and shackles) at RPM Outlet.com, that lowers 1 3/4 (assuming the front) and 2 inches from the rear shackles. The kit is 189.95. I would really like a 1 inch front and 3 inch rear drop. I hear 2003's are higher in the rear.
Does anyone have experience with Eibach springs? Will I need new shocks?

That kit is too low and would take a lot of work to make the rear match. I am installing a new kit this weekend and will let you know how it goes. It is suposed to be 1" in front, 2 in the rear. Anything over 1" in the front requires shocks and generic shocks suck on L's.

I am doing a 3x4 drop on a 2002 Screw and will be using the Bell Tech Kit. It comes with shocks but I drove a truck with Doetsch Tech shocks and was impressed enough to order a set. These shocks are specifically made for dropped trucks and at $39.95 each they are a bargin. Check it out: http://www.sporttruckdirect.com/Doetsch_Tech_shocks.html

With a name like "Nitro Slammer", they have to be good. :p

The lowering kits try to regain ride comfort with soft undervalved shocks. When you try to make the truck handle it just bob's an sways.
Don't forget that a lot of the Vendor's drop lengths are for the standard F-150, not the Ls (since they are lower from factory)...
I wouldn't be surprised if that Eibach kit only goes down about an inch on the L.

If you want a 1/3 drop I would get the Hotchkis front coils and Johnny Lightning has a new set of 3 inch shackles. I have some on order and they should be in soon. I hope to have it all done weekend after this one. If you want to see the finished product before you buy, let me know.

Are you keeping the truck or just putting money in it?

Terry,
How did the 1"front 2" rear kit go?

IT looked great on Dana's 02. Since the 03's are jacked up so high it requires rear spring work to make them anywhere near close to the fronts. You just tell me what height you want and I can get it there:tu: A regular spring and shackle kit will still leave the rear 2.5" too high:hammer:

what I really want is the front about an inch lower than the rear

That looks very nice...Thats about the stance I'm looking for and I have no concerns about Terry's ability...I've heard nothing but good things about the guy.

one thing I did find out is that you will have to have some more work done on it when you take it in to be aligned.. However, the ride quality seemed to improve once I did have it aligned..
