My wife's 01' Focus dropped a valve seat on the #4 cyl today. Too poor at this juncture in life to buy a new car, so where is the best/cheapest place to pickup a longblock? I'm looking for a 2.0L SPI (YS4E-DA casting) .

BTW... Does anyone have an engine hoist and/or stand that I can borrow?

Thanks!

I have a stand if you need. I rented a hoist for about $40 for 4 hours at RentalStop in GP. Let me know when you are going to pull it and I will help you out.

Check over on FocalJet for parts if you need. I would think those motors would be a dime a dozen at the scrap yard.

I did some research over on FocalJet. Seems many don't recommend the SPI replacement since they are known for the valve seat issue.

There were several threads with this theme

Thanks Steve... I'll probably take you up on that engine stand. I pulled the head today... What a mess! I'll try to get some pics of the carnage up tomorrow. Amazingly, I don't see any damage to the cyl walls, but the piston is pretty chewed up, and the head is toast. The valve seat fractured & dropped into the cyl. The valve guide fractured as well.

The Zetec swap looks interesting to me. I found a brand new Zetec for $1000.00 vs $2000.00 for a rebuilt SPI that may drop a valve seat @ any time. The down-side to the Zetec is swapping the wiring harness to make it work... Mostly due to the time needed to make it happen. (The Focus is the only car we have that will fit all four of us, so this hurts) Of course, I may have time anyway, as this was the 3rd big financial hit I've had this year, so i don't have the $$$ to buy an engine right now.

Thanks again for the help. I'll let you know when I'm ready to pull the engine out... Probably this weekend, or the next.

Check with LKQ, VatoZone is also selling used parts these days.
