Yes I am curious to see what these are capable of with some minor modifications? My truck is at 120K, still running well but going to Waco weekly to watch my son play baseball is getting my attention at 13MPG!!
These claim 22MPG, so I would get 18 still not bad!

Have you priced these yet? the sticker on that one, and it was an XLT I think, was almost 37k.. ouch.. you get a platinum or king ranch and you are going to be well into the 40s,, and they thought Lightnings were expensive.

I have but that's sticker price, anyone with half way decent bargaining skills should be able to get 5-6k off sticker which still leaves a decent price tag, but chevy and dodges are up there too, market is just high priced on crew cab trucks now days. Might be able to pick up a used low mileage one in 6months to a year for a reasonable price if new is too steep

Yea, who pays sticker anymore?
Wait til year end, or when the 2012s arrive in August, you should be able to get a great deal.

I like my 2010 a lot. I have been keeping up with the 09-11 forums. The guys say they run strong and have torque. Some question the economy or durability when doing real truck duties. One link said Ford spec'd the turbos for 150k mile life span. Then Ford has the Utube vids of Baja punishment etc...
With gas going up and up this summer maybe to 4 bucks people will look real hard at the EcoBoost. A buddy of mine said he would never have a v6 in a full size truck. But maybe that is old logic... I thought about trading my 5.4l on one but it is cheaper to keep her...
With rebates and invoice pricing you can get 15-20% off which is usually 8-10k off sticker.
I am a little ticked the new 5.0 reaches max torque and HP over 4,500 RPM. That means you have to twist it's balls to go anywhere. The Eco does max torques at 2k or so... But it has lots of new parts that could fail down the road, high pressure fuel injection etc... New trucks have electric power steering and so on...

The good news is that the direct injection is really just a modified diesel fuel injection system, so it's not new tech. Car makers in Europe have been using turbos in everything for years, not so much for speed, just for power with fuel economy.
One of the guys on another forum went to a Ford test day where they do 11K trailer pulls against Chevy and Dodge . He said the 5.0 felt comparable to the stock 5.4 (seat of the pants) of today and the V6 felt pretty stout, and out towed the V8 competitors. He liked the 6.2 but said the V6 was the coolest and felt the quickest.
There is a video on youtube (forgot to save the link) of Ford running the Baja 1000 with a test engine that had the equivalent of 163,000 road miles on it. They beat it up and were surprised at how much less fuel it used compared to the other trucks. Pretty impressive.
The true durability test will be when people start doing mods and upping the boost. It should be interesting to see what comes out in the next few years, you can bet Chevy, Dodge and probably Toyota are working on one upping the Ecoboost. We may see 500 hp hotrods that get 40mpg someday.....:tu:

Here is that torture test that Ford did to the EcoBoost.

100,000 miles+ simulated on an engine dyno, hauled timber up a mountain, ran on a NASCAR track for 24hrs pulling a trailer at 100mph+, head-to-head trailer pulling up a mountain, installed engine in a baja truck and ran the baja 1000, and finally tear down and inspection. I watched these as they came out. Pretty neat stuff.

They have been sensitive on mods. I think SHM already blew his SHO up and was denied warranty.

Thats kinda discouraging lol. I was hoping on a good E85 tune and around 15lbs of boost they would still have some longevity to them...

That is bad news Terry!
I went by a the old Middlekauf in Plano and looked around today. Nice looking trucks but right now Ford dealers still think these are collectibles! LOL
It will be awhile before you can buy at invoice and get the 1500.00 rebate I think I see a 1K if you trade a ford as well.
I did offer the sales guy to pull the eco boost out and race my Harley for all to witness on Plano Parkway :D I told him if that beast can out run my 120K mile Harley I would buy it. Because of insurance purposes he declined!
They did have some 4X4 Limited with the 6.2 engine and it looked very nice.

The 6.2L is strong but at 9-13mpg it won't be mine. The issue with E85 is rust, corrosion and condensation in the engine that burns it. Alcohol is hell on a street motor.

The article says the ecoboost ran 14.6 in the 1/4. The video never shows it going below 14.9. However, it's a supercab truck as well. Wonder what a regular cab would run.

I wouldnt mind having one.. it would be interesting to see what their 60 foot times,0-60, and eighth mile times are as well.. just wondering if they are fast out of the hole or more of a top end kind of truck.
