This is on my daughters laptop. Its an Acer Aspire 5742z running Windows7 home edition.

The wireless and LAN will connect to my network but can't get a internet connection.

The NIC looks good in hardware profiles and appears to be working fine.

Other machines on the network connect fine via tethered or wireless connections.

Things I've tried:

ipconfig/release and ipconfig renew. DNS stuff shows 'media disconnected'
ipconfig/flushdns and ipconfig/registerdns results in no change
Connecting to another network I have the same issue- connect fine but limited resources and no internet connectivity.

Any insight is appreciated.

Figured it out

Found this on another forum searching

Try disabling the McAfee network agent service. Run > "msconfig" > Services. I disabled the mcafee network agent and the mcafee firewall core service.

Did it and now I'm in business.

Well thats damned fine security software
If you cant connect to anything you are less likely to get infected or hacked ...
