Does anybody have a carfax? I have found a F350 1 Ton 4 door diesel Dually and want to get some info. I really like this truck, I've already named him "Chuck" (as in Norris). PM me if you can help. Thanks Cathy!

With diesel prices being what they are, it must be a hybrid.

Nope. I had one before the Lightning and I just want another one.

I'd steer clear of the 03-07 6 liters. Ford hasn't made a reliable diesel since the 7.3 liter. Jimmy called me last week. He borrowed a buddy's 07 F250 and it threw a rod 20 miles down the road. It was at 170k miles though. I got out of my 05 at 101k, which was none too soon. Happy hunting.

Yep, Terry makes valid points. Maybe "Chuck" and I weren't meant for each other :).

At least I wouldn't own one out of warranty. You can extend the factory warranty to 200k and 7yrs. Navistar and Ford sued each other and no longer supply diesels to Ford over the 6 liter warranty claims.

This is a common sight to the modern diesel owner, lol...

LOL. :icon_mrgreen:
I swear, I have read more about 6.0 Power Stroke diesels in the last week that I really care to. This truck has a couple of mods on it, so it is not stock. And it is putting out a bit more horsepower. With that being said, they don't know if the head studs have be upgraded or not, so that is somewhat scary. If they would come down on the price significantly, I think I would still buy it though. Then, I could get the upgrades done. But, I don't really see them doing that. I will probably just keep looking.

If you were to get a keeper I would have th EGR deleted with an EGR delete up pipe, a 4" exhaust to get rid of the catalytic converter. An EGR block off plug, conservative SCT tune from Innovative diesel or such. Keep the stock air filter. Have an EGT gauge and make sure the tune is not a smoker. Soot clogs the moving parts of the VGT turbo. Then you just have the EGR cooler to hop it holds, regular oil changes will keep the engine going. They like 15-40 every 5-6k... Always have it sampled by Blackstone, I think it is up to $30 bucks a sample now. But it tells you the shape of the injectors and gaskets, coolers etc...

Once I deleted my EGR, catalytic converter and did head studs it was fairly reliable. Though I had an erratic idle due to ICP sensor or such I never solved. 03-04 were the worst years I would never look at one. The late 05-up were the most revised.

I prefer the single wheel F250's they are the best trucks I have owned. Duallys are a PITA to live with and they generally depreciate quickly. Between the history of the 6.0 and price of diesel they should be very cheap. Let diesel get up another 25 cents and you can name your own price. My 05 with 80k miles was worth about 14k in 2008 with diesel high. It gained another 3k in value once fuel was back under 3 bucks...

You are definitely in a buyers market. I hang out on the F150 board and there are a ton of owners that dumped their troublesome diesels for the new F150... I think they have the new 6.7 in a decent sort but I am done with diesels until I have a true need again.

+1. I unloaded my '06 6.0 when it started puking coolant at 70k.

Terry brings up a lot of good suggestions. One thing to add, get an Oasis report. That will tell you what all warranty work has been done.
