Well Guys and Gals, Gorila finally got tired of sitting around eating nanners and playing with tires. He has gone on vacation! He is on his best behavior in Daphne, Alabama tonight!

Well, Go_rila seems to like Florida pretty well! Since he has been here, he has a new set of rear tires and has had a nice wax and exterior detail. Today, he went over to Ford Speed and began his first custom tune since the built motor was installed. Tonight, Go_rila is sleeping at the shop and will go back to Ford Speed tomorrow morning for the first of several dyno's. Life is good for Go_rila! :d

In Tampa today to recover my truck from a close family member :icon_mrgreen:. After a new tune and a fresh set of drag radials, looks like Flatsman and I will be going on the first few legs of the Hot Rod Power Tour 2011. The event starts in Cocoa Beach, FL on Saturday.

The new tune put out 550 rwhp with an A/F right at 11. The Valdosta leg of the tour on Sunday ends up at a drag strip so I will probably make my first passes since sometime in 2008. Let ya'll know how it turns out and stay tuned for a few pictures from the events first few days.

We plan to go as far as Nashville and then head back to Texas/Florida on Wednesday morning from there.

Powertour should be very cool- its one of the things on my bucket list.

You still have those massive meats on the rear? What size were those like 345/17 or something?

We stopped by Daytona Speedway today on our way to Cocoa Beach. That is one HUGE track. Unfortunately, the museum was shut down last November.

Looks like a great time..

No track tour ($25 each was a little much), but I have been to TMS and that is at 24 degrees if I remember correctly. We did make it to the beach though.

http://www.svtgalleries.net/gallery/data/500/DSCN8012.JPG

Made it to pre-registration in Cocoa Beach in time for $1.25 beer at the local hang-out which is near the Disney terminal in Port Canaveral.

Jelly fish warnings on the beach down here, but the beach is not that pretty (key word cocoa). I guess Dodo Brown Beach, FL would probably not be that attractive sounding to a tourist. :)

Well, here is my favorite car of the day, although there are so many cars, it is hard to like just one! It is a 1931 Chopped and Channeled Coupe. This car has done the power tour before and is very well built. I hope I see it on the run up to Valdosta tomorrow.

Fun day driving from Cocoa Beach to Moultrie, GA. Stopped to take a photo of this swamp buggy in Midland, FL sitting outside a biker bar.

http://www.svtgalleries.net/gallery/data/6168/DSCN0087.JPG

Then went on to the Don Garlits Museum south of Ocala. I will have an album up in the next couple of days. Some crazy cars in the museum including the one that exploded and blew part of Garlits foot off years ago. If you ever get a chance to stop in, do it. Tons of drag racing history as well as some salt flats cars and Garlits own collection of 40s-50s era cars.

http://www.svtgalleries.net/gallery/data/500/DSCN00921.JPG

We arrived at the venue around 4PM with the temperature just under 100 degrees and high humidity. I decided not to run the truck, but we watched cars run for about 30 minutes. Really a lot of non-drag-racing folks that had trouble staging correctly, cutting a light, or driving their cars very well (mostly the manual transmission folks). But it was entertaining. Most cars were in the mid-13s to high-14s range. Very few in the 12s.

Tomorrow, we go to Montgomery Motorsports Park and hopefully I can get a run or two in before it gets too hot.

We left for Montgomery this morning for a nice drive through the SW Georgia agricultural area. Probably the biggest pecan trees/orchards I have ever seen anywhere. Nice roads and not so hot early, but it didn't take long for the first casualty of the day; a new Boss 302 Mustang as Flatsman tip-toes around the scene.

http://www.svtgalleries.net/gallery/data/500/DSCN0122.JPG

Arrived at the Montgomery Motorsports Park early and decided to make a pass. Very hot and humid again today. Didn't expect much so I decided not to ice the inter-cooler reservoir or adjust air pressure in the drag radials. Basically just drove up, did a little burnout and let her rip. 12.27 @ 111mph Decided to park it. Turns out I made the top 10 ET list for the day (#7 out of 150+ vehicles). The top time of the day was an 11.8 something. Just kind of lets you how hot it was.

Made the trip from Montgomery to Nashville today and stopped at a few places along the way. First stop was Birmingham (which I absolutely love) where I stopped by the Greenwood Cemetery and took a shot of this plaque...

I remember the event back when I was in 6th grade and it had a profound effect on me even at that age.

Next stop was Cullman, AL where I took in a little tornado damage. You could see the effects of the recent storms in Alabama from Montgomery all the way to Huntsville on I-65. Interesting contrast in these two pictures taken from the same spot, but in two different directions.

However, I did find out that I will get a case of Royal Purple racing oil sent to my house sometime in the next couple of weeks for making the top ten ET list at Montgomery. The top 10 times from yesterday were...

Started out on Wednesday at 6AM and left downtown Nashville.

Went by the Country Music Hall of Fame south of downtown and saw this line (6AM remember) waiting in line to get in.

http://www.svtgalleries.net/gallery/data/500/medium/DSCN0176.JPG

Got out on the freeway and realized my I-phone was no longer in my computer bag (it must have come out as I negotiated the steps outside). Returned to the hotel, cased my room and the truck interior. Even got the valet guy to call the number, but to no avail. Oh well, decided to leave (by this time it was 7:30) and head home. Pulled into a Hampton Inn to use the phone and inform my company of the lost phone. The account was cancelled and another new phone will be waiting when I get to the office on Thursday. Nice company I work for BTW. When I turned into the parking lot, I just had to take a picture of this...

Memphis = Graceland. The tour was well worth the $35 except there were a lot of foreigners that didn't understand English. Pretty comical since the headphones were in English only. Most of the non-English speakers were just wandering around like a bunch of lost sheep. Funny looking for sure. This is one of the many display buildings complete with confused foreigners.
