Found this guy in the front yard about a month ago. Couldn't fly at the time, but he could climb a tree using his beak and talons. The next day he was east of the house and had learned to fly a short distance. Yesterday he showed up in our upper window ledge on the west side of the house. He's back today. Not certain what kind of owl it is (maybe barred owl), but you can get right up to the window without it even bothering the guy.

He is awesome!

I thought he looked like a Flammulated Owl but they are more mountainous.

Not what I was expecting based on the thread title.

Pretty cool. If he doesn't keep you awake at night, he'll keep the field mouse population in check. :tu:

I have one that sometimes hangs out on the power pole 60 yards away from my bedroom window and it'll wake me when it starts hooting.

We still have our little screecher hanging around on the west side of the house, and these two guys showed up on the back porch today. Guess the heat is having an effect on the local critters as well.

My guess is you have some food around

Owls eat (http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_do_owls_eat_for_food#) mainly rats, mice, squirrels, bats, insects and small birds. However, when faced with starvation, owls eat other owls because they have no other food (http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_do_owls_eat_for_food#) source, you better warn the screech.
