OK, a few months back I traded in the travel trailer on a Class A motorhome, making me officially OLD. I specifically did not want a toad (car towed behind the motorhome) because that got me right back into the length/maneuverability issues that were the downside of the truck/travel trailer combo. So, the plan was to drive the motorhome, use it for sightseeing, and just to walk anywhere we wanted to go inside parks. However, on our last big trip through the Ozarks we had multiple times when our hikes were 5+ miles in 105+ temps, including one hike where one of the dogs gave out and I had to carry him the last mile. Not much fun for him or me. As an example, we wanted to go see a waterfall. OK, a two mile hike down a pretty trail to see the waterfall. Only problem was the trailhead was three miles from our campsite, and there was no parking for the motorhome at the trailhead. So, our short hike to the waterfall involved a total 8 mile trek, and that got old quick.

So, I started looking at receiver mounted racks for some form of conveyance. I looked at bicycles, electric bicycles, small motorcycles, and yes, gag....scooters. Truly, the cost was just about the same for any of the options. I did not need anything capable of highway speeds, but I did want something lightweight (due to bus loading and GVWR concerns), and something that could be ridden two up (Except for the bikes. Tandem bikes are a :nono:.)

So, after considering all of the possibilities I ended up selecting a scooter. Yes, an honest to goodness step through, floorboard, full on gayness revoke my mancard scooter. I ended up with a 2010 Honda NHX110 Elite. Found it on ebay with a mere 262 miles on the clock. Used U-ship to get it here (an interesting, but pleasant experience), and now I'm the slightly embarrassed owner of 108 cc's of fuel injected, water cooled screamin' machine making a massive 9 RWHP. Yes folks, 9 whole HP  Careful now, don't let it get away from you. That kind of raw power is good for a downhill top end of 53 MPH. Two up, into a head wind, it's good for 45. However, wet weight is a mere 254 lbs, and fuel mileage is right at 100 MPG.

And it's actually pretty fun to ride. It did call for new helmets to replace my rather funky smelling 20 year old Shoei RF700. And, being somewhat partial to my jaw, I still opted for a full face helmet. So, I look a bit overdressed for the machine.

So, now I'm afraid I am officially OLD and GAY. :icon_rolleyes: First ride away from the house I was dismayed not to get a wave from the two Harleys I passed, but an old guy at the post office flagged me down and asked me where I got that cool machine. Said he wanted one, too.

Only your choice of color prevented you from being considered gay IMO. However, I would stay away from the old guy at the post office (especially if he offers to take you trout fishing). :)

Well, for those that know you, I am sure that "gay" wasnt a thought that crossed their mind.. however, it looks to be a good choice for what you needed. I am more impressed about the 7 mile walk with the last mile carrying the dog. Congrats on the new ride.

You better paint some flames on the helmet...maybe a cool brush mohawk on it or something.

I aspire to own a Honda Ruckus someday if that makes you feel any better, lol. Scooters are the new chopper!

I've got a 1987 Honda NQ50. It used to reside on the back of a motorhome. Now it's my "around the ranch" scooter...lol. Of course everyone tells me I need a smaller ass or a bigger scooter. 70 mpg!

My only comment is: What happens when your two-up on the scooter and the dog gets tired? Or will that end up with a new definition of "Doggy Bag"?

As I get older, I realize that time is over-rated. What really matters in the end is; will it be a memorable experience.

LOL Brian. Just another reminder of how times are a changin' - went from running 13 seconds to 13 minutes in just 10 years :D

Seriously though, sounds like you found the perfect fit for your needs. Enjoy!

Quite the pioneer...stretching the limits of gayness to unseen before new levels.

Update - The scooter works perfectly for its' intended use. It's a great way to putter around and sight see in parks, and it's quiet enough to sneak up on game (watchin', not poachin'). And with the trailer attached we can get the mutts to trail heads that aren't near camp. So, very pleased with the scooter.

However, after being away from the motorcycle world for 15 years the scooter gave me the itch for some real two wheeled conveyance. I didn't want anything new, or expensive, or with the crotch rocket riding position, but I've kinda' kept my eye open.......

Just this past weekend a mutual friend of Terry's and mine mentioned that he was selling his street bike. What sorta' street bike you got, I ask innocently? Oh, just an older Honda CBR1000F sport tourer, looks pretty clean, mechanically perfect, only 22k on it. Well, you can figure out where this is going.

So, I still have the scoot. But sitting menacingly next to it is 998cc's of DOHC inline four making 130 hp, good for a 10.8 quarter, even if it is 19 years old.

Can I have my man card back now, please? :evil

I think the card can only be returned if you post a picture of something macho...like an assault rifle or something.

Oh, and yes, showing the quarter mile lights after having run a sub 11 sec sprint at the track..

Sorry, but I've given up my guns and moved on to more peaceful hobbies after being informed by the President of the error of my ways. Silly me, I'd never realized that those inanimate objects were capable of deciding to commit evil acts all by themselves.

I said the bike was good for sub 11 second runs. I did NOT say that I was capable of piloting it to such speeds. ;)

I hear ya... mine practically jumped out of the safe on its very own the other day..
