We started a thread on Lightning Rodder, and there are not many lightnings left over here but I thought I would throw this out there any how. Some of the older members may remember Ryder( has GbGarys old truck). He went with a built motor after he blew his. Now the bearings in his blower went out and he was going to put a 3.4 whipple on it. We made a Deal with Trick Performance in Wichita Falls to do a Single Turbo Kit for pretty reasonable. Trick is wanting to build a standard Lightning Turbo kit so the deal is with Ryder's truck as the donor vehicle and 4 others that commit will get good pricing on the first kits made. There future kits will still be priced well but the first 5 will have a decent savings attached to them. So if there are any lightnings still here wanting to go the turbo route this maybe your chance. Trick does top notch work so you wont be disappointed He is the one I'm letting do the turbo kit on my Denali which with just the turbo should put me around 600hp @9psi. The lightning kit on Ryder's truck should put him @ 650hp on street boost(14-16psi).

Dammit dammit dammit! Would love to do this but the stock motor will not be able to handle it...

It's all in the turbo sizing, with the set-up he is doing you can change the size of the turbo with out any other modifications. I believe on ryders truck we are doing an 83mm, but on a stock truck you can run a 76mm and keep the boost around 12psi and make great safe power, then when you are ready just up the boost :)

Can't wait to check it out. Did you go with PRP and who's doing the tuning?

PRP? We are going to try our hand at the tuning ourselves. Software should be here tomorrow

PRP is the acronym for one of the SCT software versions (Pro Racer Package).

Its not optimal right now because its pegging the Maf & almost out of fuel(we new we would be). We had to leave the shift points low (5200rpm) which made the turbo loose its steam after the shifts. One the maf, injectors & pumps arrive. We can start shifting between 6k & 6500rpm, so once it spools it will pull till we let off. When it was in boost it really felt strong. Can't wait to feel 14-18psi lol.
We are going to dyno at the current Boost level(9psi) before we turn it up just for reference, but my butt dyno believes it to be in the 450hp+ range, maybe higher in the upper RPMs that we can't get into yet. Then we will work our way up.

We put in the new Fuel Pumps and the ID1000's injectors this weekend. Turned up the boost to 14psi. It pulls like a freight train!! Its been a while since I have felt a truck put me back in the seat like this lol :) Next mods will be upgrading the torque converter and valve body in the transmission.
