Dear Dad,
A funny thing happened to me yesterday at Camp Bondsteel
(Bosnia): A French army officer walked up to me in the PX, and
told me he thought we (Americans) were a bunch of cowboys and were going to provoke a war in Iraq. He said if such a thing happens, we wouldn't be able to count on the support of France. I told him that it didn't surprise me. Since we had come to
France's rescue in World War I, World War II, Vietnam, and the
Cold War, their ingratitude and jealousy was due to surface
[again] at some point in the near future anyway. I also told him
that is why France is a third-rate military power with a socialist
economy and a bunch of pansies for soldiers. I additionally told
him that America, being a nation of deeds and action, not words,
would do whatever it had to do, and France's support, if it ever
came, was only for show anyway. Just like in ALL NATO exercises,
the US would shoulder 85% of the burden, and provide 85% of the support, as evidenced by the fact that this French officer was
shopping in the American PX, and not the other way around. He
began to get belligerent at that point, and I told him if he would
like to, I would meet him outside in front of the Burger King and
whip his ass in front of the entire Multi-National Brigade East,
thus demonstrating that even the smallest American had more fight in him than the average Frenchman. He called me a barbarian cowboy and walked away in a huff. With friends like these, who needs enemies?

Dad, tell Mom I love her.

Your loving daughter,

Mary Beth Johnson Lt. Col., USMC

Damn Frenchies! Funny as hell to know that a male French officer was not interested in chancing getting his a$$ whooped by an American female marine! Considering her rank, she could probably beat the hell out of a lot of the core!

Note to Terry:

If Col. Johnson fills out a bikini anything like the Marine Col. on JAG, I think you'd better enlist, 'cause you just found the perfect woman. :tu:

Thats in interesting perspective Madmax, and I am unsure if by BS post you meant mine or the false marine post...

My mother is whole German, 2nd gen from the ole' country. She had nothing as Germans were not looked upon too highly during the turn of the century. I can tell stories my grandfather recited about how he was a WWI soldier sent to France to free the country and how the Frenchman treated American soldiers during WWI, how gangs of the French would gather together and BEAT Americans, the same Americans that came to bail their asses out. I am not wanting to start a debate or war of words with anyone although this probably will, however ALOT has changed since they assisted us in freeing the colonies, ie breaking away from the British Isles. They are socialist to the core just as America in its ideology is based on the free-market structure. France has been somewhat socialist in several respects since their own revolution just 11 yrs after our. In many ways they represent the direct 180 of how we as Americans feel. I am proud of my heritage just as many on this list are, but France deserves the ass-kickin if they are nothing but appeasers as they have proven the last 100 years. Appeasement brings ass-whippings...No doubt the media sucks too. Maybe we can come to a consensus and drop them in as Airborne troops before the invasion begins. That will help them understand WHY we need to protect ourselves.

My in-laws used to tout how Americans in many ways are too proud of themselves. I always asked them to name two countries that have accomplished so much in less than 200 years. Romans, Carthageneans, Egyptians, none have done what we have in such short time span since Alexander...

We have the right to be proud. We are Americans...I am glad I gave my time to serve the USA and the best damn military branch this country has ever had, and gladly would still give my life for this country if it meant protecting freedom and family. As for the French, I am sure not all of them are bad, as all Germans weren't Nazi's. I can safely say that the Majority of the French are anti-american or at least adversarial (as well as most of the UN and its Security council), based on Reuters polls and alliances that have been struck in the recent past (formation of the EU, Russian-Chinese Pact in 1998, etc). We, more than ever, have to stick together, and screw ANYONE that does not want us to protect ourselves and freedom.

BTW, you mentioned 'our media'. Not my media, they can kiss off. 'Max, aren't you American since you were born on a US gov't installation?
