The ****ing head gasket has eaten my lunch of the last time. I have decided to get out before it bankrupts me.

I am going to trade the Lightning on a car like the rental I am driving.. The sense of comfort and confidence in the Saturn at 95 mph at 6000 rpms is hard to beat....

Anyone want to buy a Web Conglomerate ? 10 Domain names, 2.5 million hits a month or so ....

Ill post a separate thread in the For Sale Section regarding the Websites and any mods I take off...

But breaking it is part of the fun! Hell, I bet you could hook a radio flyer to the savage and tow yourself around with that until the L is going again. :tu:

For the record. This is the 3rd time it has been in for head gasket work. The second time was 2 weeks after the first.

It hasn't gotten a new head before or the new head gasket design.

It is my hope that the new gsaket design coupled with a new head will help. The fact that a plug or 2 were burned on that head some years ago is an added bonus

Doug you getting the new gaskets and studs this time? Or the JDM 03 built bottom end? I bought JDMs new gaskets. Not a bad price compared to Fords price! I work my tail off sometimes asking questions so I don't spend my money on the same thing twice. With this truck sometimes it takes me 3 or 4 times to learn. I feel like I'm bumping my head.:hammer:

That is the old style head. I wonder if they would get you the newer head with the "extra" plug threads.

According to the Tech who does all the head work for them there is no "other" part number. He had at least 20 dead heads near his bench so I know he has experience.

Hey Doug, I have a set of these in Dallas that can be installed by a machine shop which will give you plenty of steel threads for the NGK TR-6 plugs. They are called timecerts and will let you torque your plugs a little tighter. I have a little over $70 in them but for you, we could work a deal......say $80! In the picture are the Moroso index washers so that you could index your plugs while the heads are off. Lord knows I did! lol

The tech stated there is a ford tech article that specifically says DONT thread or helicoil the head....

Flats Man

That tech article is probably because they still think they have enough threads in their heads! The timecerts have to be installed correctly or you can have problems with them coming out! OK.....$70!

His experience level does not mean he wouldn't B.S. you. Straight Up Doug...he is either lieing out his arse or he does not know what he is talking about....probably just a lack of knowledge on the newest heads.
Wether or not they are available for the replacement guys may be the real issue. The way I understand it...Ford is using the new heads for the new build trucks. They are dumping the old heads on the warranty market. Since it is warranty, maybe they don't give you the option.

The clue is in that manufacturing date on that head in that pic. The new heads went into production after 11/12/2002.
Rocks:tu:

Here is a post by superfords on this deal. Again...maybe if it is warranty...you have to take what you get.

I believe that 2L3Z-6049-BA is the correct number for one head and 2L3Z-6049-DA is the correct number for the other head. Actually if I'm not mistaken, they are both the same exact casting, only the cams are bolted on in the opposite directions.

Anyway, dealer cost on these things is around $550 per head. THIS DOES NOT MEAN THAT I CAN BUY THEM FOR THIS PRICE, AND IF I COULD I WOULDN'T BE SELLING THEM FOR THIS PRICE! so PLEASE don't e-mail me about this!

The parts manager would not be happy if I tried to order heads at cost for every member of the online community that wants a set. sorry

List price is upwards of $900 per head!

As far as I can tell, there IS NO NEW PART # for the new heads. The part number has not changed for '03! this is why you won't know which head you get until it arrives and you open the box

Fritz: if you take your truck to the dealership for the oil leak, they aren't going to replace your head at all, just the gasket.

LMAO....Some folks thrive on melodrama.

I didn't mean to stick my nose in your business with the heads. I guess I was throwing up a suggestion about trying to get some of those new fangled 8 thread plug holes.:d

I had a similar thing happen on F150 online. I posted a thread about leaving the forum because I was out of smokes. I was actually poking fun at all the fair the well posts that showed up that evening.

Crap, someone took it serious and before I new it, I was getting a smoking cessation course....LOL:vomit:

With 53,000 miles and ALL my mods still on except the pulley I am thankfully taking whatever they offer. It appears it will all be covered by wtty.

I burned a couple plugs a few years ago and am interested to see what the original head looks like. if the new head spits a plug I have 2 options, more wtty or a new block.
