View Full Version : Airbag light on... any ideas before taking to dealer?

Truck runs fine, but the airbag light came on the other day and doesn't go off. The owners manual says this means it would not operate properly in an accident.

When first starting the truck each time, the light on the instrument panel gives me 2 blinks, then a pause, then 7 blinks...followed by a long pause. Then it does the 2, pause, 7 flashes again.

I'm sure the 2-7 is significant. Anyone know what this means, or have access to these types of codes?

My fear is that if the system has to be replaced, then they will reflash or give me a new computer, and my chip will not work. :(

I'm taking it in tomorrow. Fortunately, I have 6yr/70k mile warranty, so I'm good there.

Just hope they don't void your warranty cause you were chipped :bs

Thanks, but I'm not concerned about that in the least. I have known the service writers and many of the techs at this dealership for a number of years. They know I have a chip and don't care.

Plus, the airbag issue has nothing to do with the powertrain or drivetrain...which is all the chip controls. Only an unscrupulous dealer/service dept. would deny a warranty claim due to mods unrelated to the problematic area. I know it happens, but it won't in this case.

That's good...because it seems more and more dealers are starting to fall into the later category :(

Good luck.

Wes - I recently got a NGS scanner that should be able to give you some insight to the codes if you are interested. The same equipt the dealer uses. I dont have the "other" card yet but the service card I have gives access to a number of areas that the Autotap never did.

Let me know
