Well I was running a vette and I lost top end. I pull over and it was missing like a dog. I knew it was a plug ,cause this is my 4th to go boom! Anyway I pull the plug and my helicoil came with it. The end is fryed on the plug. I had 1gal of toulene in less then half of a tank. I never heard detonation, poss cause I was at 120mph. I should have not had detonation with 114 octane. If I can make FFW Jim has to reprogram my chip. I have had it up to my neck with breaking these plugs!!

I think you need the heli coil tool to thread it in. Don't over tighten the plugs next time:nono:

You may want to mention to Jim that you are using the truck for sustained top end runs. There are some changes that the tuners can make to the chips allowing safer high end long term runs. You will probably loose a VERY SMALL amount on the 1/4 mile, but at least you won't blow your truck with inaudible detonation.

A tune that is designed for best track times can be deadly for motors trying indurance runs.
Just look at Nascar set up vehicles. They are crap in a 1/4 ,ile situation, but can sustain very high speeds for very long times.

I hope I'm not comming off as a "know it all". I am trying to pass on info I learned while at superchips R&D in Florida.

I really don't like to go that fast. But its the only way to save my tires is to boost at 40- 60mph. And that dam^ vette mad me mad. I see what he thinks. I'm going to find out info this time. Like my air/fuel numbers and my timing. Thanks!

Glad I could help out.
The superchips guys told me that it is always a good idea to put your L on a dyno after you get any new chip, even if it is suppose to be the same program. That's why I am trying to get to the dyno this week. I just received a flip chip with a race program they want me to try and the other side is suppose to be the same as the single chip I have now. But they want me to check both sides anyway to be safe.

Your running about the same boost as me. We are pushing the edge with our set ups. I have my street side on a nice safe tune that will allow me some latitude, but I still try not to run her too fast on the open road for too long. I do occasionally run it up to 140 or better but I let up just after it gets there. Maybe I am paranoid, but I keep remembering what happened to Terry during his road run.

Rocks

hehe. 130 for 5 minutes 2 times, both hard accelerations at highway speeds with:

1 charcoal grill
2 dining room chairs
1 living room chair
3 luggage bags

:)

i have a safe street tune. the truck loved it. the stuff in the back interupted the aerodynamics a bit and it didn't like that too much.

a passat thought he was real cool. i let him get about half a mile down the road and did one hell of a fly by. think the air almost blew him off the road LMAO!!

edit: terry probably has some long high speed runs.

toulene has an octane rating of 114, and you had it watered down with a a little less than half a tank of 93? i just made a rough calculation guessing how much 93 you had in there and it came aout to be roughly about 95 octane. does that still come out to be enough octane rating to support your tune? just trying to throw some ideas out

Tough luck Tim. :(

I ran a 1996 Porsche 911 last night on I-20. Pulled him by about two cars from a 60mph punch to 140+. Weeeeee.........:d

Real cool guy too. He pulls up next to me at highway speeds and shouts "Whattya got in that thing?"

HEMI, of course.

Well I got the insert back in, with a new plug and its still missing. I sure hate to pull that head. This time the peice missing on the plug is very small. No peice is too small to hurt a valve. I now have the record at Talon with the most problems with valves. I'm not proud of it!!!:hammer:

I'm guessing you were in the truck instead of the Espirit?.:)
